My sister had her car broken into sunday at a movie threatre. In the daylight about around 4 o clock at night. The passenger door lock is completly ravished. Not sure if it's still useable. The glove compartment door's lock is broken. Meaning, she had it locked and they broke it. They stole some coins (ok?) Her bible, and most of all, her cheap, what $80 speakers. The stupid theifs accidently theft some evidence though. The tool they used to get into the car. The screwdriver. We've contacted the cops, but from what I hear they're not doing s.h.i.t about it.
I'm 15, and very pissed off for my sister.

help? please

You may be right. Depends on what city your in as far as the time the Police may have to investigate this type of crime. Many PD's don't even check the vehicle for prints. Takes too much time for what is considered a "small" crime. You want things to get better? I've listened to the Police scanner on nights (and it happens often) where the cars are going from one call to the other with no time to try and apprehend anyone unless they jump into their cars. And I don't mean dogs barking calls, I mean robberies, murders, stabbings, shootings, rapes, etc. All part I crimes and you wonder why they can't give attention to a tampering with a motor vehicle (a misdemeanor?).

1) Vote more money to the budget of Police Departments so that they can hire more cops.
2) Get the judges and lawyers to quit playing games and put some of these SOB's away for their crimes. As it stands, crime pays and I mean BIG TIME. A cop works to catch these people and before they are finished with the report the thief is back out doing it again! It gets to where you loose hope in what your doing and figure, why try.
3) Yes there are problems with rogue cops, but the Monday morning quarterbacking is so great that most feel like "just answer the calls and nothing more." That way they risk less in the way of getting into a shoot out where they will be sued and persecuted in the press and their lives ruined or into some fight where no matter what the circumstances are, if they are white and the suspect is black they will be accused of racism.
4) Get neighborhood police back so that the people in the neighborhoods know their police and feel comfortable in talking to them and telling them things and the Police feel comfortable helping out in the neighborhood.
5) Get the community involved...hell, they don't even vote which is why we get stuck with the politicians that we have! People will stand around and watch someone else be brutalized or murdered and then swear they didn't see anything. THAT'S what keeps the gangs running strong and dominating things.

Do all of this and maybe, just maybe we can get our streets back. Do not...and it will only get worse.

By the way, when did you last get involved with YOUR community except to criticise??

I once had my $400 jacket taken from my car; it's gone forever.
The only thing you can do is to try to catch them yourself (it won't be hard to do) and then whoop their a.s.s.e.s. I doubt you will be able to get the monetary reimbursement from them (most likely they've got no money and nothing valuable to take from them), but at least kicking their a.s.s. will make you feel better.
If they jumped the car on that parking lot, that is the place where they are usually working. Find the busiest time of the day when the parking lot is full and leave the car there with something valuable in it openly displayed. Then watch from somewhere where you can't be seen. They will not resist the temptation, and will try to break in again. And this is when you will get them.
I did it twice; always works.

I understand how pissed you are. It makes you feel violated. The truth is that even if they have the screwdriver, MOST of these thieves are at least smart enough to wear gloves these days, hence no prints. Your sister probably has insurance that should cover the theft and the loss. Good luck.

If no one got hurt - they probably aren't that worried about it. It happens too often.

My girlfriends parents came home to their Manhattan apartment as it was being robbed. The guy took off out the door. They called the police. That was five years ago and they are still waiting for the police to come.......

It really depends on where you live . If you're in a big city, quite frankly there's not enough time, manpower or techs to test the fingerprints on every small crime . A small town police force 'might' check the prints .

i feel your pain. unfortunetly cops are too busy to even worry about car accidents, let alone a simple car robbing. It feels unfair but it's not their fault they are understaffed. If you are one of the many that crys like a baby because of taxes; and wants to get a bunch of tax breaks, you have no right to complain about bad cops, schools, or anything else. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

........why are you pissed? you do realize that this happends thousands of times all over the world. this is a common crime. common. unless they left fingerprints, there really is no way to tell who did it. and even if they did have finger prints it's still hard to locate them. truth is, your sisters 80 dollars speakers aren't exactly that high on the cops to do list.

Ok, well this isn't a serious crime to cops. They are not about to have prints lifted from the screwdriver or something because it costs alot to send evidence to a lab.
