How does sexuality, violence etc. in video games affect children in a negative or a positive way ( if there's a positive affect lol)

Positives: Keeps the mind active, urges the player to work out problems using his/her mind, can educate to a certain degree, a more creative entertaining way of telling a story, offers many chances for the player to brush up on reading skills.

Negatives: Some children may become too attached leading to social problems, gives the individual "ideas" for violence.

The violent content in video games could only influence an already disturbed mind. Violence and sexuality are part of history that is freely taught in schools. Do history lessons lead to violence because it offers up ideas of violence such as strangulation or assassinations? No. Video games are a scape goat for children who have done wrong. Certain games do offer the player the chance to perform deeds what aren't very wholsome and in some cases the player is rewarded for doing so. But often, the problems lie in 'what' is played rather than the nonsensical babble that all video games are evil. Most games make the line between good and bad very clear.

You as parents should do the right thing and check out the games you buy before hand. Does Action Man lead to violence in children because it is a representation of a soldier weilding a gun? I think not. It's an action figure.

No, it doesn't. Most kids can tell the difference between real life and Halo. Despite what the media and politicians would like you to believe, games =/= violence in real life. They are no more so than music, books, and movies. If a person is mentally damaged somehow, and does something, that's a different story but happens with a lot of those situations where video games are the "culprit".

I feel that with the appropriate parenting there's no effect at all. However some children are just too young for exposure to violent video games but generally they're also the children that I feel are too young for ANY video games that aren't educational.

some video games have violence and if children see it they may want to start doing the sam thing like in grand theft auto stealing cars hitting people shooting them them running over them.even in some video games it contains violence and smoking even poker video games can start making children gamble which is unlegal.so next time you buy a video game watch the ratings.

I really found this story interesting. I am a psych student and have studied about this a little. But, most of all....I am a mother or 3. My oldest son loves to play ps2, I just try to buy games that he like that aren't too violent. I also don't like my husband to play really violent games in front of the kids. My son does have lord of the rings and it is a little yukky to me, but doens't really worry me. I don't think that a game is going to cause a child to become a murderer or something though. As long as the games aren't too bad and you make sure they know it is a GAME! I have heard of a game of some teenagers running the streets and beating up other kids and kicking them on the ground. That obviously is crazy to me to let a kid play something like that. I try to keep the games that have ANY fighting in them a little unrealistic. Just be careful!

Well, my brother use to play Jane's fighting anthropology and James bond 007. He also played half-life, all war fighting games. I always nagged him that he never was going to use this later on in life and he proved me wrong. He joined the air force and was excepted into intelligence and actually teaches pilots how to use simulated games to help them with new technology, and it helped him with war tacit. He is very smart. When we were young, he was a little rough.

I'm not really sure... my husband used to play violent video games as a child, and he didn't turn out to be violent. I think it depends on the child's atmosphere at home, how they are raised, and sometimes the child themself.

Positive: it gives them something to do. or sometimes they create friends....
Negative: they become so violent with their words and actions.... sometimes they have this impression that life is like a game that they can quit and be "alive" again..... it is the virtual world they are creating....
