I have had good luck with CDBurnerXP Pro. With this software you can burn CD-R, CD-RW DVD+R/RW DVD-R/RW discs. And its free just like you asked!

Go to www.download.com and download limewire or bitcomet and then from there look for roxio media creator 9 or easy cd creator 6.
