I am a 21 year old single mother. I have a 4 year old son and 8 months pregnant. Me and my son's father were common law married. We had been together 6+ years, lived together 4 years. We are now sepperating, so me and my son are staying with family until we can get on our feet. Being 8 months pregnant doesnt make it easy to find work. What little I have are being consumed by all my pregancy expenses. It will be my sons first Christmas he doesnt get to spend with Mommy and Daddy. Some Christmas for a 4 year old :( Anyway, my reason for this post is a begging plea of any kind of help to brighten up his Christmas as much as possible. Any kind of help is more than I could ever thank you for. God Bless You

Hope you and your family have the Merriest Christmas

I don't know where you're writing from, but in most cities in North America the Salvation Army has Christmas Programs for kids. Also, if you go on the website of local news stations you may find information on programs in your community to help people at Christmas who don't have a lot of money. You may find free events that your son might really enjoy put on by your city. Even taking him to see all the lights in a neighbourhood could make a four year old happy. Finally, if you are part of a faith community, you may want to talk to them confidentially about any programs they provide. I truly wish you and your son all the best.

It may sound silly, but in addition to the other wonderful responses you got, try buying or making your son a bird feeder (or have him make one with you)! The feeders are are cheap, and the birds and squirrels are delightful to watch, for both of you. Also, joining any group that is singing is a great way to uplift your spirits, and feel connected. is there a group caroling? Is the local school or library doing anything?

Last but not least, Toys for Tots provides new donated toys for children who fall into your son's description.

My heart goes out to you- I cannot imagine how lonely you must feel. Please try to stay as active as you can, and make sure to burn 3 candles on Christmas Eve. One for the past you need to forget, then one the presnt you are thankful for, and the 3rd for the future you hope for. You can help yuor son the best by taking care of yourself, and helping him understand his daddy's leaving was not his fault.

Get your family to ask for his ideas in decorating the home. That would make him feel more involved and feel more wanted. Get them to ask for his help in choosing gifts for various family members. There is nothing like the feeling of being wanted and the feeling of belonging. Get your family to involve him.

Focus on the fact that this is the "special time" when he alone gets to be with his mommy.
