I have been in the US for almost 3 years. I have no problem with speaking and understanding a standard American English. I live in NY and it seems that NY is not a good place to make the communication skill beter as there are many people like me than the people whose first language is English. How can I find some Native English speaker who is willing to talk to me ? Are there any workshops for people like me?

Americans use English as their only way of communication all their lives but they don't use proper English. If you really want to learn English, you might want to go to school in other countries that use English in schools (like Philippines). Although, they cannot pronounce English words well, you can learn the grammar.
And yes, New York is not a great place to learn since there are many immigrants/foreigners there.
You said you're in college, right? I think that is a good place to start.

When in Rome do as the Romans do. Your background is different. Having something in common is a good thing if you wont to talk. Understanding our ways as well as our language would be a big help. I'm from Kentucky known as a hillbilly and I have a problem talking to new yorkers. I don't like their food either if I order in a restraint up there I am very careful because I'm not for sure what they are bring back. Even in the US we are very different in different States. So if you wont friends be friendly. Learn as you go, study some history, good look.
