Generally speaking, how much money do you think one should have saved upon moving out of their parents home? (A young person, about 21 y/o)

Excluding the cost of funiture and first/last.

I'm thinking $10, 000 (canadian) would be suficient. Providing one is employed. What do you think? I'm just looking for some opinions.

(Yes, I have re-posted. I'm just trying to maximize my answer results. lol thanks)

I dont think you need to have any set amount of money to move out of your parents house. I left with nothing but a job and made it just fine. As long as you have monthly income to pay your bills your savings can be at any amount.

Excluding all the things that you need to move out... I spent about 2K just getting all the necessities. Moving out, if you are attending college, I'd say 5K. Some money reserved for emergencies. Depends on how nice of a job that I would have. If i made nice money, and was still going to school, I'd keep as much as I could. I'd put some in an IRA, or something like that. You can always pull it out before you turn 55 or 60, and get taxed on it, but its more of a out of site outta mind account. I usually try and keep 3k in the bank. I put into my 401K at work, but have no savings. So my 3k in the bank is for my gotta have it splurges, and savings/emergencies.
