The same reason why other animals have multiple partners. It is an instinctual thing that has been suppressed (or has attempted to have been suppressed) by civilisation. Evolutionarily speaking, having multiple partners increases one's chance of having their genes passed down successfully. While some offspring might be unfirm because of bad combinations, the more combinations and the more different the components of the combinations, the greater chance that their genes will be part of a very successful and viable individual.

What 'cheating' got to do with 'love'?
They don't get along together!
IF a person cheat, he/she does not LOVE her/his partner, even if he/she hundred times 'cry' and say so!
LOVE makes the lover blind! The partners having NO ability to SEE anyone else that be able to cheat!
IF a partner says I Love u, and then just LOOKING to other;
the said partner is a dog! Not Lover!

I don't, but both sexes do. Males usually do it more often due to the fact that they aren't getting as much physical contact out of the relationship as they would like, so they look elsewhere.

because with men sex has absolutely nothing to do with love. It took me a long time to realize this , but if i would have known or believed it sooner it would have saved me some heartache.
Men are visual and primitive (like a dog or monkey) and have a difficult time remaining loyal ;-)
