I went because my local surgery's call out service referred me for an infected site wound and was told there was a twenty minute wait for triage followed by a minimum wait of four hours to see a doctor so I went home and used an ice pack till my own surgery reopened

The time before that I was collected from work in an ambulance at 3.00PM and had an emergency operation seven hours later at 10.00PM! It turned out that I had peritonitis and my appendix spit in the surgeon's eye! Served him right for keeping me waiting that long

The last time that I personally went in I was extremly sick. My pain level was about 9 on a 1 to 10 scale. It took me 4 hours to get into the ER to see a doctor. I do not advise people to go to our ER unless the are DEAD! Have a great holiday season... spend it out of the hospital and at home with your family!!

I went to the ER at 8:30 PM for dehydration. I didn't actually get treatment until 2AM and I was released at 5AM.

It didn't seem that long because you get put on several waiting lists- One to sign in, one to verify insurance or ability to pay, one to discuss your complaint and/or ailment, another waiting list to take your temperature and vital signs and to determine the urgency of your condition, and finally you are escorted to a room for treatment. No more than a half-hour elapsed between wait times in spite of how lengthy the process was.

As a side note, several people died in the ER that evening. At different stages of the evening I saw the ambulances repeatedly rush in and then on other occasions I saw families walking out the front door with one of those personal posession bags.

My two year old got mauled by a dog. It took 4 1/2 hours to get help!!!! He had 20 stitches and 10 staples. I spent all that time waiting and holding a bleeding toddler! After 3 1/2 they brought us a TV.

I work in the ED and it depends on what a pt. is in for, how many critically ill patients come in (MI's, CVA's, GI bleeds), how many folks call 911 (they go immediately into the ED). I've had pt. wait in the waiting room for nearly 12 hours . . .once a pt. get's to the ED and they are admitted, I've had pt's sleep in the ED for up to 3 days waiting for a hospital bed!
It's aweful the wait times, but many folks don't have insurance so they use the ED MD's for their primary doctors because legally we can't turn anyone away whether they have insurance or not. This really clogs up our EDs and increases the wait times. To top it off we have pt's who are drug-seeking which further stress the ED situation, as they "fake" symptoms of distress, but they are simply looking for a quick fix.
Yesterday I took care of two homeless patients, one of which was hypothermic and the other complained of chest pain (she was fine) . . . it was very cold the night before and they had no place to sleep . . . so they came to the local ED.

I took my mom to the ER for bleeding from the rectum, usual Dr. will deem this "internal bleeding" possibly very serious, enough to soak through cloths and more than one sanitary pad, after a battery of questions, (i guess they thought,,"it's not that bad") we waited for 6 hours, and then another 2 after we got back into a curtained area. pathetic at best.

Broke my nose, had blood all over me, was in extreme pain, and waited 6 hours before I went in to see someone, by that time, Dr. told me I had waited to long and he would have to break the bone again to set it...signed papers and left hospital right away. Love my bump on nose :)
