That is the only dog my best friend will own. They are very loyal and highly active. They require lots of physical interaction and mental stimulation. But she states that they are best as solitary dogs, and does not recommend ever having two at the same time. Because they are cattle dogs they have been know to carry over those tendencies to other animals and people, especially children. I recommend reading up on them and understanding the bred before your final decision. I've attached a website that will offer a little insight, and your local pet store or online will have books on them as well. I've also included a website where you can find a blue heeler (or any animal) and these have all been temperament tested and come with recommendations for the new owner. Good luck!

Heelers can come in red or blue in color. or a speckeled variety of blue or red. I own and breed them myself. I won't sell them to someone who has never owned one, doesn't know the breed or lives in town. these dogs require ALOT of attention and play time. This breed in incredibly inteligent. so they learn good or bad things quick. you have to be consistent with training at all times. they are very loyal and I won't own any other dog cuz of their loyalty, intelligence and personality. so if you can contact a breeder and go and spend some time with them to determine if this is the right kind of dog for you all the better. I've seen so many end up in shelters etc cuz families didn't know what they were getting into with the breed. good luck and hope this helps

Heelers are quite intense when it comes to their herding instinct... they will herd anything, animal or human, and can be very "sharp" (likely to use teeth). I don't generally recommend them to families in town or with small active children due to there sharpness. I have seen some very aggressive heelers work cattle, and it was scary. They are not a breed for a beginner or someone who is very laid back or timid.

They are pretty smart and good dogs. They like to herd things. Kids, sheep, whatever. Probably would be a good thing for them to have some space to run around. My friend has one and he is just a great dog.
