It is not possible! A loving God will not send anyone to eternal torment. Search your Bible. Nowhere does it say eternal "torment". This is a pagan teaching. It is the punishMENT that is eternal, which is separation from God, not the punishING. According to Malachi 4:1 for instance, the wicked will be burned UP and will leave them "neither root nor branch." Verse 3 says the wicked will be ashes under our feet. "Logic" or "reason" would suggest that they are nowhere to be found once the fire goes out. The Bible gives an example, by the way, of "everlasting fire." Jude 7 tells us that Sodom and Gomorrah were burnt with "everlasting fire." The fire lasts until there is nothing left to burn. Nothing left but ashes. We as sinful beings would not punish someone in a lake of fire through eternal ages for a few years of sin, so why are the attributes of the devil being taught in most Christian circles as those of a loving God? This doctrine of the devil does more to drive people away from God than to lead them to Christ as evidenced by some of the responses you will get to this type of question from non-believers and those who are bitter toward God. Check out bibleuniverse.com for more on this.
No parent should "beat" any child for any reason ever period.

Yes, it is possble to equate a loving god with eternal torment. A loving god gives you choices. If you choose to be wreckless, mindless, careless, uncaring etc. not just with or towards others but also with and towards yourself, you will have eternal torment in your existence. Remember eternity can mean one second or one millenium or an extension of time that we can't percieve or measure. We make our own lives tormentuos by what we do to and with ourselves. We have god given choices to be happy, harmonious and healthy or to be ill, shaken and miserable.
Now, a person who beats a child is as evil as a person who slaughters an animal. They are both very barbaristic and perhaps even unintelligent. Maybe they are just numb and traumatized to the point of blindness. Maybe they have been hurt too much. Who are we to judge? We can only try to understand their situations, forgive and help. And make sure we don't make the same mistakes.

God of love sends no one to hell. Hell contains only volunteer residents and, as C. S. Lewis said, the gates of hell are locked on the inside. Hell is the total absence of God and all that God is. Man is thus stripped away from God as he has chosen. That is how people choose their own rubber rooms in the insane asylum known as hell.
The second question was an obvious "No!" Mark Mark 9:42, "It will be terrible for people who cause even one of my little followers to sin. Those people would be better off thrown into the ocean with a heavy stone tied around their necks."

What you, and other people need to remember, is that God sends NO one to hell, that doesn't actually choose to go there themselves. We broke the law, by sinning, the price is hell/death. He was the one that made a way out of the dilemna. We don't get to argue over whether or not there is a dliemna. There is, but there is a way out. Luckily, all you reading this, know this, if you didn't before now. Just don't choose hell. He is righteouss, and good, it isn't inconsistent with his nature, to do what he said he would do. To reject his son, outright, is to choose hell. To answer your second question, never ever do we glorify a parent for beating their child, ever. That was you and others like you that try and equate something like that. It doesn't paint a picture of God, just you.

Ditto to what Doug said.
I think that you misunderstand and many have misunderstood you.
Why would God allow parents to beat their innocent child?
Is that it?
Sometimes a kid will be a kid and a parent HAS to discipline them.
This is duty.
I am talking about spanking not beating.
There are lines one must never cross.
Some do and God will punish them.
It is not my place and I'm not their judge.
I glorify none but God (being father, son, and spirit).
The answer to your misunderstood question is that I think that you have misunderstood. God loves. He does not sit there muah-ha-ha, I'm a gonna torture so and so for eternity and put them in He double toothpicks!!
God gives freewill and the rest is history.
Regardless or the reason...
Peace.

It is not possible to equate a loving God with eternal torment. The Bible doesn't even do it. Why would you or anyone else do that ?
First of all, eternal torment may be a teaching but it is not a teaching of the Bible. No verse or scripture suggests that those who reject Christ are going to suffer trillions of centuries in the fires of hell. It simply is not there. If you can prove it from the Bible send me the verses - the_show_n_tell@yahoo.com
However, God does not save anyone against their will or without their cooperation. If a person does not choose to cooperate with God, before they die, to develop a Christlike character, God will not force them to go to heaven.
A Christlike character is the only kind of character that could enjoy heaven and the only kind that could be safely trusted in heaven.
Those who refuse to yield to the love of God and be changed before death will die the second death in the lake of fire. After this punishment, the individual will cease to exist.
Revelation 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Revelation 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
No one is going to be given the gift of immortality so that they will be able to burn forever. There will be no eternal life in flames.
The most merciful thing for God to do for the person that does not choose or want God's help to conquer the principle of selfishness in his or her life...
The most merciful thing that God could do for that person is to abbreviate their life.
All selfishness in human nature tends toward an extreme conclusion; murder. This is the mystery of the cross and the revelation of the human heart in hostility towards the Creator.

What if their adult child was Hitler or some serial pedophile murderer? But just for the record I equate my God with eternal salvation not damnation. Life in this world or the next is torment without the Lord. He's my friend.

Have you tried equating Him to eternal bliss? Oh, and I got a few beatings ( it was called discipline) as a child, it was for the better. Yes, I thanked my parents, I realize that they love me.

1. When did God "beat" His children?
2. How much do you love your children? If they choose to ignore and call another man "father," how would interact?
3. If your children took this to their grave, I bet you would be saddened, but yet, you would love them enough to allow them to make their own decisions, regardless of what was right or wrong.
4. God loves you that much to respect your decision to live your life without Him receiving any acknowledgment of whom He is. If someone chooses to live this life without Him, then eternity without Him should not be a problem.

A parent who loves their adult child realizes that he can't make their choices for them, so allows the child to experience the consequences for themselves.
There really is no other choice.
