I want to have at least 500 Bhat before I get to Thailand so I won't have to go crazy at the airports trying to get cash at the blasted currency exchange machines.

Go to a treasury building, there should be one in every state capital. You get the actual exchange rate. When you go to other nations, you get ripped off when you buy/exchange currency.

Get it at the airport before you go if you need some. But Thailand is well set up for currency exchange. When you arrive at the new airport, no matter what time, there will be a bank kiosk right there where you collect your bags to exchange your money. And the rate is better if you exchange it in Thailand. Right now it's about 35 baht to the dollar.

In every tourist destination, many places to exchange money - also a Plus Card or Visa card can be safely used in ATMs and they, too, are everywhere.

The banking system is Thailand is safe.

a) Call your bank, or look for a national bank in your area.

b) In my recent experiences traveling abroad, the best way to get foreign currency is to use your ATM card. You get a better rate than at the exchange places.

bring an ATM card and use it at the airport. No fee for currency exchange and you get a better rate.
