Um, it's actually people who cause so much strife. It's their lack of tolerance for other people's beliefs and just plain disrespect that causes a lot of war. Blaming religion for people's sheer idiocy is pointless. If you're going to propose that religion be made illegal, then money should be illegal, too. These days parents will kill their kids to get money from their life insurance and vice versa. People rob banks and do whatever it takes to get extra cash. Many heinous crimes are committed simply because so many people are obsessed with money, thinking that having that extra cash will make them happier.
I think it's about time that we all just take responsibility for our own actions. We can't force religion, politics, money, weapons, etc to take the blame for our actions. We all have free will and it's about time we start exercising it.

Well whatever you may think about it, making it illegal would take away people's freedom of rights for one thing. And then what would people want to start discriminating against next? But making something illegal just drives it underground The USSR tried it and when it broke up religion just sprung back up And this country I live in tried to do that once to one faith and it resulted in an attempt to blow up Parliament Oppression only leads to civil unrest and violence Besides not all wars and violence are caused by religion. It's used as an excuse to cover up the real reason like political or monetary gain despite the fact that the religion itself is meant to encourage peace and is opposed to violence

Religion has never been the cause Greed has always been the cause power has always been the cause. Strife is caused when other people insist on forcing other people to think like they do. YOU are the problem. People like you want to play GOd and tell everyone else what to think. So if you combine someone like you with someone who wants there neighbors land then we have genocide.
Stalin was an athiest he killed more people than hitler. Hitler made alot of things illegal too he killed a whole bucnh of people too.
Whats your problem with freedom. Your problem is that your not God and it pisses you off because your not getting your way, your image of GOd mathces who you are, You are a dictator so you make GOd one too.

If religion were made globally illegal, who is going to see that no one practices it? The United Nations can't agree on anything, will they agree on who is the be the "enforcer'? No, they won't. Another reason is you can't stop people from thinking and worshipping the way they want to. They may hide to do it, but they WILL do it.

Because then you would be making your own religion by forcing the disbelief of everything else on the world. You would be among the greatest hypocrites as you make everyone believe what you believe...how would you carry out making it illegal to practice a religion? Would you use violence if they didn't submit to you? If you refuse to use violence, how effective can you really be at removing religion, if there's no threat to keeping it?

Probably for the same reason sex isn't made illegal! Just think of the murder, heartbreak, deception among many other things that has been done just to get laid! Sheesh!

well because, if practiced pacifically, it can be a great experience and a great way of life. Religion doesn't have to cause pain. Those who do, are extremists and don't practice religion as it should be practiced : with love and respect. If you do ban it, you would take away something that is cherished by millions.

It's not the religion, but rather the people exploiting a system of beliefs to attain a given political or social end.

Because that leads to a distopian future of repression. Read more books. Religion isn't the problem, ignorance of what the religion's meaning is the problem.

Because then, as with cigarettes which are said to be the cause of second hand smoke, which is really the fault of the car and industry, we would still be faced with the same problems and would have to deal with (the car, the plants, emphysema, lung cander, the Conservative, the Liberals, the Commies, war, viloence, terrorism) it!
