My dog goes crazy barking and running around in circles when I leave the house or visitors leave. The noise is driving me crazy. He does the same if I put him out because of visitors. How can I stop him I have tried so many things and it will work for a short while then stop!!!!

For some reason your dog has learned to be overexcited when you or someone leaves the house, I suggest kenneling the dog when you leave, but when someone else leaves, before they leave walk up to the dog and have him sit, put a leash on him and give him a command like stay. When the person starts to leave and he begins to be wild, check the leash softly and give a strong *SHHHHH* and tell the dog to sit once again and stay, do not allow the person to leave until he is sitting calmly again, try that, this is makeing it known to you that you are in control of the other person comming and going not him. Also when he is calm give him a treat.
Oh and to add, When someone leaves, do not allow that person to say goodbye, or pet or do anything with the dog, this enforces the dogs anxiety that theres a reason he doesnt want them to leave, same with you when you leave the house completly ignore him with no eye contact, so there is no reenforcment to his anxiety. make sure he is in a calm state of mind. He has probably learned your behavior to know when you are about to leave, try to change something in your routine to deter his thinking. And when you get home, dont be over excited to see him, ignore him until he is calm so its not such a big deal that you left.

Honestly this is going to sound harsh but either spray him with water or go get a barking collar if that dont work. Or a slap on the nose. NOT TOO HARD. Also if you are crate training using it to disapline could backfire on you. One more Idea is an empty can with coins in it shake it when he does it...they do not like the banging noise.

This is a behavioral problem. Ask your vet for a referral to a dog behavioral specialist. He will work on correcting this behavior and teach you how to work with your dog.

I heard that if you use a spray can whenever they bark they will stop doing it. The tsk... sound really bugs them.

Crate him until he learns to get beyond the ghosts in his head.
