You don't say how old the dog is or
if you have access to a trainer.
Some trainers will come out for the first visit free.
If you were to adopt a dog needing a new home that ALREADY gets along with cats I'd say that would be your best bet.
But if you are set on this dog seems you have two choices.
If you can-- distract the dog when it's going after your cats, say with a ball or game and don't leave them alone without supervision
Otherwise you need to have the dog on leash everytime the cats are in the same space.
Best of luck to you!

A dog should NEVER be introduced to your other pets, the same day he's brought home.
With cats, you should make one room be cat accessible only. The easiest way to do this is to put up a barrier in the doorway. As long as your dog does not want to kill the cat(s), they will eventually adjust. Make it very clear to your dog that it is not to chase cats -- correct it for even looking at the cat -- and things should work out. Keep in mind that cats can take up to six months to adjust to a new dog, even a friendly one. Patience.

If you want to keep the cats and the dog- you'll have to do this slowly. Start by putting them in separate rooms and day by day- put them together (make sure your are there too) for a little bit. Gradual familiarization. Also, teach your dog by now attacking the cats- by doing this, just keeping telling him no over and over until he gets it. I will take time. Good luck!

Every time you see your dog go after the cats run out there and say no cats. Dont yell at them because then theyll start barking because a yell from you is like a bark to them. Swat him on the rear firm but not abusive. You must be persistent otherwise he'll get confused.

You need to keep them in the same house but in seperate rooms for a couple of days so they get used to the smell of eachother. and then you can introduce the dog to the cats more and more till they dont notice eachother around the house any more.

any unacceptable behavior can be remedied by you if you want to. be patient and consistent witht training. start with most basic obedience training(re.sit, stay, leave it,come when called, etc.)in the beginning keep everyone seperated and work with them in short spans. if your cats already had issues maybe you should've waited to add the stress of a new pet.

let the cats attack the dog. I know it sounds mean, but my dog use to do the same. The cat attacked her, my dog learned that the cat is domminant, therefore she is submissive.

Nothing to do with the dog, everything to do with training. Read this: http://www.leerburg.com/dog-cat.htm
