There is a lot of blood flowing through there, and the ticks don't have to burrow very deep to get to a good vein. The ticks might also go there because your dog will stick its head in the bushes. Ticks will jump to any warm body that they can find. Also, the skin there is soft and it's easy for the ticks to grab a good hold on your dog.

the heart, as in humans and other animals, pumps alot of blood to the brain because it requires alot of oxygen. That is why even small head injuries can bleed soooo much.
Perhaps this is why. Perhaps over years ticks have learned that this is the best area to feed. Now that you mention it, every time I ever had a tick, it was on my head. ewww

If you were using a good tick and flea repellent, you shouldn't be finding and. Now go spend a few bucks and protect your dog.

Usually the hair on the dogs head isn't as thick as the hair on the rest of their body.

It's because you're not putting Frontline or Advantage on your dog once a month.
