I'm turning 18 in a couple months and getting my driver's license. For my first car, I want my deceased Dad's '97 F-150 so I don't have to pay for a vehicle. My grandma has it in storage but won't let me have it because she believes driving a truck is too difficult for a beginning driver.
Do you any positive info about trucks that I could tell her so I can get her to change her mind and get my Dad's truck in two months?
Thanks!

Truck as 1st car,,,, My Vote is YES

97 F150 Let just Say " compared to a car"
A TANK that drives like a Super Car....

I recommend a Pickup for at least to learn to drive in,
..... Reasons .....
Your sitting up high in traffic, able to see more.
NO blind spots when driving... on each side.
Double inner walls in doors and cab. (Not like a roll cage) but better than Chevys roof for the same year model...
Just enough power to get in and out of traffic safely and more.
Lower Insurance rates for that model
I could add a few more, But I've already received my 1st negitive rating... So will let other add more for you...
Typing with one hand is just to slow...

Your grandma should think twice before Writing off letting you drive the truck... I don't know for sure but I think your Dad would be proud of you driving it knowing its a safe vehicle to drive. It was his choice for a vehicle to drive???

Also you will be able to haul stuff for her !!!

Also practice driving in your moms car so you get the feel for the difference... Maybe your grandmas car also... Every car has a blind spot...You need to know where they are in every car you drive.

Driving tip...Double Check and tripple check those mirrors when changing lanes...

when i first got my car i was reckless and if i got an f-150 instead of a small car, i probably would have rolled into a ditch already.
as far as positive info, i can't think of any. the insurance is more expensive for you, the cost of gas is more, risk of rollover is greater...sorry but she may be right.
ask her to let you practice with the truck. take her to the supermarket and stuff. this way you can prove to her its okay and, at the same time get acquainted with it.
good luck with getting the truck and congrats on getting the license

i own a repair shop, and a truck is one of the safest vehicle in the world to be in,,because they have a full frame under them, and the insurance is less on a truck that it is a car,all you have to do is ask your insurance company on that one,,but i really think if you talk to her ,she might let you have it,,id take care of it though ,it will probably last a long time, but they are safer to be in,,id bring this fact up,,it might help,,good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

my parents wouldn't let me drive anything but a truck when i turned 16. it's a lot safer and easier to see what's around you in a truck rather than a car. it makes me nervous when i drive a car now...

My first was a standard ford ranger...yea it's smaller but it still a truck....I also learned how to drive in a full size van....huge...it was nothing...so yea i think an f150 would be kickass and no problem for you!!
