If my girlfriend suddenly gets a cold sore should I suspect she was with someone else or could there be other reasons....lately I have been wondering if she has been with other people, but I have no solid proof and she insists there is no one else. Until this sore showed up I really had nothing, but is the sore a smoking gun? It seemed to have appeared out of nowhere and showed up for her at work today. She was fine when she left apparently. I don't know what is up or what to do...I don't want to accuse her of cheating but this is sunny california, neither of us are sick, she doesn't get "stressed out" and she isn't menstruating. It just popped up

I did refer this to all of you because it seemed some of the other questions pertaining to this type of malady had a lot of negative connotations attached. No one was as forgiveable as all of you when it came to the subject so thanks for the perspective. Again, she is not one to get stressed out, she does not have a cold, neither do I, and she says she never had one of these before and I know I haven't, as far as stressed, it is hard to know what is working on her. By my question you have to all assume I am wondering if there are other reasons than her cheating because it seems other questions were approached that way. If it is the least of all reasons i am relieved and again, thank you. However, I do have reasons to suspect which I could go into but would take too long, all I can add to this is that no, she is not stressed, not menstruating, not sick herself, and her diet is really good. Just seems suspicious that it would just pop up like that

A cold sore does not mean your girlfriend has been unfaithful.

The virus that causes cold sores is Herpes 1 and about 90% of Americans have the virus in thier systems by the time they reach adulthood. Many get it as small children due to being kissed by adults with the virus (you know, like kissing babies?). It's actually the exception and not the norm to NOT have this virus in your system. Herpes virus never goes away and lives in the nuclei of the nerve cells in your spinal cord at the base of your skull and will travel down the same nerve paths to the area of the initial infection. It is possible to have the virus in your system and never have a breakout or to have it for many years and have a breakout later. Breakouts can be caused by stress, changes in diet, hormonal changes, weather changes, changes in cosmetics or for no apparent reason.

Maybe she's stressed by your jealous insecurity.

If you have no solid proof why don't you relax and enjoy the relationship? The most miserable I have ever been in relationships is when I'm with some jealous insecure jerk that treats me like a slut when I have done nothing wrong. Take her at face value when she says there is no one else.

ps - as to your comment that you do have real reasons to suspect but they're too long to go into - you've just spent two pages of text on your suspicions over a tiny little sore. Give us some real reasons to be suspicious with you, or get a grip and trust her.

Cold sores are generally caused by a form of the herpes simplex virus. They can pop at any time though a low immune system caused by illness, stress or lack of sleep can cause an out break. This virus can lie dormant in your systems for years with no signs, meaning she could have got it years ago and just getting the sore. You can have sores steadily for months then not have another for years.

A cold sore can come at any time is NOT proof she is cheating. If you trust her so little you should talk to her about, a relationship can not work for ever without trust.

a cold sore can happen for lots of reasons and can pop up at anytime and suddenly especially during the cold and flu season. stop being so suspicious and silly. no wonder she's under a lot of stress you're harassing her and make her crazy. you're going to lose her if you keep treating her so badly.

Cold sores aren't necessarily from an STD. Don't assume she was with someone else. Trust in her until you can prove it wrong.

cold sores can harbour in your system for years.I found that out the hard way....thats how mine started. You say shes not 'stressed out',but maybe you're stressing her out over the cheating issue.I hope for both your sakes shes not cheating and you 2 can get on w/ happy lives.
