How old is your dog? Sometimes, when you have an old dog, they tire out quickly. And if you're not home all day, your dog probably sleeps to pass the time. It could just be a habit for your dog to sleep a lot. I have two 4-year old rat-terriers, and they are really active, but that's only when I'm active or they need to go out to use the potty. But if it's a slow day for me and I sit on the couch, they will jump up and sleep in my lap. It could also be the diet of your dog. Make sure that it's getting all the vitamins and minerals that it needs to live a healthy and active life. Check with your vet if you don't think it's getting the right amount. Take it for walks too. That always makes my dogs happy.

yes actually it is ok. it also depends from size of a dog and the activity level. you know the ratio between dog life and humans right? yea so dogs are heart beat 7 times faster than humans so it works more. therefore dogs need to sleep and rest so their hearts will rest as well and they can have their energy back. that is why they say let the sleeping dogs lay and dont distrub the sleeping dogs. mostly they are sleeping not cuz they are lazy cuz they have to .. but again in some cases the dog might be feeling sick or he might have pain in his joints or hips( especially larger and older dogs are prone to that)

I have a dog that does that also. I think over the years that it became habbit. He dodn't have anything else to do so he did just that. Bored or lonely which ever comes first with him. Waiting for me to come home from work then I would be to tired to play so back down he went, waiting for me to do something. I guess what I am saying is it is our fault. We tend to neglect our animals some and then ask the question Why does it do this or that.

I'm no vet, but from personal experience with my own dog, I think it is normal. I mean as long as your dog is eating, drinking and playing, he is fine. My dog sleeps or lays down most of the time. I think it is the position that is most comfortable for them, so don't worry or anything, he's probably fine.

How old is your dog?? Older dogs tend to sleep more, also some breeds are less active than others. Dose he get routine check ups at the vets? In colder weather older dogs tend to slow down a little

I think that is pretty normal in a dogs life. What else are they supposed to do? I think the only time our beagle stays awake for any amount of time is when she gets loose and goes and explores the town until the dog catcher brings her home or we find her.
