no, the officer is not allowed to go into your car. if you step outside of the car and lock the door when you get pulled over, he cannot ask you to open the door...some officers will do this anyway, but it is a violation of your rights. the officer is only legally allowed to enter the car (or house) if he has a warrant or sees somethign suspicious, i.e. if he saw a bong on the front seat, or drugs or whatever. lock any bad stuff in the glove box or trunk, and the officer will not be able to enter your car (if he does, dont let him. tell him you didnt give him the right to enter your car......some officers might not be receptive, so best to get out of the car, and lock and shut the doors if you get pulled over.

Stare decisis allows the cop to search anything within plain view when he pulls you over, there is no limitation to the amount of doors he can open in doing so, as long as the objects he is going for when opening the door is in plain view. He cannot open the trunk or glove compartment without a search warrant, or probable cause to believe evidence he is looking for is in that area (Acevedo).

He can search the car all he wants if he has express permission to do so, by you. A cop is allowed to ask to search your car, and by saying yes you have given him permission. Saying no to this question does not warrant suspicion enough for probable cause.

No, lol I love the responses and myths people make up sometimes.

Anyway, the officer cannot go into your car unless you give him permission, he has a search warrant, or its in plain sight.

The glove box thing, trunk, etc. is bs. If the officer desides to call in a drug sniffing dog and he smells something then that also gives the officer the right to search the car

If your pulled over for possibly speeding, You don't have to open
any doors, simply crack your window down and hand him
your drivers liscense & proof of insurance. That is all you are
required to do by Law .

your state may have some special rule, but no there is no such over all rule, they can look anywhere that is in plain sight and anywhere around the driver for "officer safety"
This is a general rule and not valid in all states.

No - the police can do whatever he or she thinks is correct in this situation, especially if they think there is a crime or they feel at risk.

Do not believe this myth.

no they can check whatever is in plain sight
through the window and that here in Canada
if they have reason they can ask to see whatever they think they see... but not your trunk without reasonable cause (evidence)
