His carseat is a 5 point harness. The seat belt goes across him. He reaches to the side and unbuckles it. It is installed correctly I assure you and I'm not putting him in wrong. but it IS possible for my 2 yr old to undo it. Thanks to those who understand and have dealt with the same thing. :) And for the good advice.

He`s getting your attention when he does this because he knows you are going to stop and yell or spank him. Just calmly pull over and buckle him back up and tell him if he doesn`t stay buckled up he will not go next time

I have the same problem. It went away for awhile and now it is back. The harness (even properly done by a firefighter that does carseatr awareness) is very easy for my son to take off and pull the straps down. He can also reach with his long arms the seatbelt! From his carseat. Yes he can undo both of them. It is a fight to keep him in it. The carseat I was givin was also from the fire department and was brand new and the recomended one to buy! So I understand your problem and consistancy did it for me last time so hopefully it will work again. Good luck it has nothing to do with you doing things wron although having someone check to make sure it is all installed and he is buckled correctly is very helpful and a smart idea

There are many ways to take care of this. One you could let him know that if he keeps doing it you'll leave him home next time, if you have the means to. Another way would be to get one of those car seats that are a little trickier to buckle/unbuckle. Or, if you son is like mine, big yet smart for his age and incredably stubborn. What I did was make sure there were no cars around, I started driving slow, not much faster than just taking you foot off the brake, then I did a brake check. After he slid out of his seat I explained to him how if I were going faster and that happened he would have gotten hurt. It may sound mean, but it worked for my son, scared him straight. Otherwise there are the grounding techniques, taking toys away and stuff.

My son did the same exact thing! He got punished probably a million times, but it never seemed to make a difference. He fianlly just quit..... I know that it's not really helpful, sorry. I think I finally just stopped pulling over, and he realized the game was over. And to whoever said if it's a carseat they can't get out of it if it's adjusted right, you've obviously never met a 2 year old! My son's has always been in right and he can get his arms out, and undo both clasps on his five point harness!

If the buckle on the carseat can be undone by a 2 1/2 year old you need to invest in a new carseat. If you are talking about the real seatbelt then you need to invest in a carseat.

At two and a half he is old enough to understand that if he does not have his seat belt on the car doesn't move. If he takes it off en route, pull over and just sit there. Tell him you can't go until everyone is buckled, and then don't speak again. Eventually he will get tired of sitting. It will work especially well if you are going somewhere he likes to go.

you have gotten 2 super solutions already! I wasn't even going to respond, yet had to show that the seat the firs tposter reported, the Britax Regent is an astonishing seat, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, it is not FAA authorized for use on airplanes, b/c of its length. if your baby nonetheless fits interior the 40lbs convertible or forward dealing with seats at Walmart/objective than purely take your p.c.., maximum are FAA authorized, verify in the previous paying for. If she's too vast for those already, than you're constrained a lot all the way down to the two A Britax seat - Britax Marathon/side highway/Decathalon, or a Sunshine teenagers Radian65 (the Radian80 is a sprint pointless, comparable appropriate shell because of the fact the sixty 5, purely examined to 80lbs as a substitute of 65lbs, maximum childrens will outgrow it long in the previous they attain 80lbs.) fairly what seat you get relies upon upon your funds, and commonly on your youngster's weight and top. additionally see the hyperlink under to evaluate widths of motor vehicle seats (between different measurements!) i'm fairly thinking what seat she at present has, b/c very few are 20inches extensive. some are available at 19.5 inches, such because of the fact the Britax MArathon between them, and that could and has been used on airplanes. if your seat says that's FAA authorized, use it, and get a GoGo Kidz attachment that turns the seat right into a vehicle seat with wheels. the youngster may even take a seat in it on a similar time as you pull, making it particularly a lot a stroller! verify eBay for greater value-effective fees than the retail $80.

Your child should be in a car seat and if adjusted right the child can't get out or release the straps.

I finally started to carry a fly swatter, I could still drive and the swatter scared my little one enough she'd stop taking off the belt.
