I just got the toshiba theater wide 50 inch plasma and I'm watching tv and see on my digital cable box it says 480i, how do I set it to the higher HD settings to maximize my tv's performance?

Ok, so now I have it going on 720p but when I tune to a regular station it stays on 720p rather than making the switch and I then have a grey bar on each side of the screen.

HD channels look great though.

How are you connecting your cable box to your plasma? You should be connecting it via component, DVI or HDMI to get the best possible image. HDMI or DVI being the best quality.

With standard stations, it should say 480p. With HD stations, it will say 720p or 1080i. Your cable box will not upscale a standard station to high definition.

If it says 480i, you will need to go into the settings of your cable box to ensure that progressive is enabled.
