Jeff C should stop telling Catholics they need an education when he needs one.. Hey Jeff try reading Eph2:10 when you tell everyone else to read Eph2:8-9 ;) you might then discover the entire context of the chapter.
What Catholics reverence is Jesus' authority in the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. The Pope is called Holy Father. He is called holy because of the holy office he holds not because Catholics wish to think he is always sinless although that would be an added bonus. The Pope is called Father because he is a spiritual father of Christianity as was St. Paul who called his disciples "my sons and daughters".
What you confuse as idolising is respect for Jesus' representative, the authority of Jesus. Do you know what the word vicar means?
Apostolic authority is whats missing in non-Catholic Christianity no wonder asker you don't get it. If children today would be shown the Christian saints as heroes (and that would include most of the first 50 popes all of whom were martyred for Christ) instead of movie stars and rock stars maybe less of the them would fall for this material world with its drugs, alcohol and lust.
Mr. Marc: just as Jeffy you need to learn your history,
1.the Church of Pentecost and Nicea is the Catholic Church.
2.Luther was one who took books out of the bible and today Protestantism does not have a complete canon of scripture one more defect they live with. Do a search on Septugint and make a discovery, the most authentic Christian bible is not Protestant but a Catholic book.

The pope is the direct successor to Peter, the first Pope. This is as well documented historically as the presidents of the United States. However, Catholics do not "idolize" him. Idolatry of any kind is directly opposed to Catholic teaching, as plainly stated in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
You have to be kidding about the Bible, right? There was no Christian Bible until the bishops of the Catholic Church compiled the book at the Council of Carthage in 397 A.D. Since then the Catholic Church has not changed a single word of the Bible. But the founder of Protestantism added words where convenient, threw out whole books that didn't support his novel doctrines, and part of another book as well, and also attempted to throw out three New Testament books. Fortunately his followers wouldn't hear of discarding the writing of the Apostles themselves, so Protestants at least have a complete New Testament.

Why do Protestants idolize Jerry Falwell?
Catholics do not idolize the Pope. They respect him as the temporary leader of the church on earth.
You have your Bible history wrong. The Bible didn't exist before the Council of Nicea -- not as a fixed collection of books. The Catholics did not set the canon of the Bible until the Council of Rome. The Catholic Bible has remained unchanged since the 4th century.
Protestants (Martin Luther in particular), on the other hand, decided in the 1500s that several books that had been in the Bible since the 4th century did not belong, and they threw them out. The Protestant Bible is a subset of the Catholic Bible and contains no books that are not in the Catholic Bible.

1. Catholics don't idolize the pope. We respect him as being the successor to Peter, and the head of our faith.
2. The Bible was assembled at the Council of Nicea in order to form a comprehensive, single collection of relirious texts, from the hundreds and hundreds of texts that were being used by the hundreds of Christian sects that were around. The Bible wasn't revised until 1611 when King James, the Protestant king of England, "threw out or reject whole or parts of the old books" of the ORIGINAL bible that was assembled at Nicea. This resulted in the King James VERSION of the bible. The KJV is really not all that reliable in studying the bible, as it sacrificed accurate translation for poetic prose.

The catholic church was not around when the council of Nicea met. The council did not throw books out, they just closed the cannon to new books. They closed the canon with the same books that were in use in in the churches around 100 A.D. Jesus did not turn the church over to Peter. The church did not start until Pentecost, 50 days after Jesus ascended into heaven. Jesus' next oldest brother-James was the head of the church, never Peter. The catholics put books into their Bible-not take them out. You got it all mixed up.
Whew!!! where does this stuff come from?

Catholics do not idolize the Pope. Please quit saying that kind of garbage. Did people back in Moses days say that the Jews Idolized him or Joshua after him? Why does everyone have so much trouble with authority figures? They have to be their own authority huh? No wonder we have such a mess today with a gazillion different religions . Everyone is their own little Pope.

We don't idolise the Pope, he is our leader, Peter was the first successor of Rome and the Pope is the latest one. All I can say is why don't you find out more about the Catholic faith before you start running us down

First of all, we don't idolize the Pope. Secondly, if you hate Catholics so much, why waste your time worrying about them?
And, one question for you....have you ever attended Mass or actually studied the Catholic Faith? If not, what grounds do you have to stand on for the comments that you are making?

Because it's just another man-made religion which relies on good works and sacraments for salvation. The Bible plainly states in Eph. 2:8,9 It's by Grace you are saved,NOT of works. God offers a free GIFT of Salvation. You cannot EARN a gift. So many religions teach you must earn your way to heaven. It's very simple tho. Accept the free Gift and have eternal Life.
added note: Isn't Eph. 2:8,9 in the catholic bible? If it is, is it interpreted wrong or just ignored? To me, it's as plain as day. Infant baptism is just one of useless sacraments they perform (as do other religions) If a child of 5 or so or younger dies, he/she goes to Heaven no matter what(baptised or not)because they're to young to understand what Jesus says in John 3:3 'I assure you, unless you are BORN AGAIN, you will not see the Kingdom of Heaven' Is this verse ignored/re-worded/omitted from the catholic bible as well? Just curious

Catholic respect the Pope. We do not idolize him.
John 21:15-17 states:
When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Feed my lambs."
He then said to him a second time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes, Lord, you know that I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep."
He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of John, do you love me?" Peter was distressed that he had said to him a third time, "Do you love me?" and he said to him, "Lord, you know everything; you know that I love you." (Jesus) said to him, "Feed my sheep.
Matthew 16:17-19 states:
Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.
The Pope is the senior pastor of 1.1 billion Catholics, the direct successor of Simon Peter.
With love in Christ.
