Im 22 yrs old, a 4th year univeristy student, I work a full time job, there is no doubt that I am not responsible. Im not a complete nerd like I must sound, I have friends and a boyfriend its not like I have socialization problems but my parents still treat me like Im 13 yrs old.
I want to go away for New Years with my friends for 3 nights. I am terrified to even let my parents know because they will lose it and just make me upset and then in the end as usual my friend will go away and have the time of their lives while I stay at home. Im really tired not being able to do things that a normal 22 yr should do. Like have fun!
I really deseve this mini-vacation, between school stress and applying for law school I had has alot of hardship this yr including both my grandmothers passing away within 20days from each other and a lot of other things. I just really want to start the year off good. PLEAsE Help me figure how to convince them. This means alot to me.

I promise I dont take a penny from my parents. My school is paid by a scholarship. I saving up for law school, I work full time and pay for my own car and everything. The only thing that bounds me is that I live under their roof.
I know I should just do it, but I dont want to hurt them at all. I want them to know that I truly respect and apprecaite them.
And Ive done nothing to make them not trust me, Im just the youngest.

So you plan on going to law school, but you can't stand up to your parents? Is it likely that you will come home and find your stuff on the porch? I understand not wanting to disapoint/upset your folks but you are 22 and on a good track to having a good life. They know that, and so do you. Have some fun!

You should sit them down and have a serious talk. Don't get upset and start yelling. It won't do any good. Point out what a responsible person you are and how you know how to make the right choices. Remember your parents love you alot and don't want anything bad to happen to you. I wouldn't want my 22 year old daughter going to NY. Sorry, but I am a MOM.

Will they cut you off from funding your school or is this even an issue? If they can mess with your school then you are obligated to them and have to do what they say. If they don't control the money then tell them that you love them but you are going out for New Years. They'll have to get over it. Once you show you are responsible and independent adult they will ease up a bit. It sounds like you are the oldest in the family.

If you are working a full time job and going to school, why do you have to ask your parents permission. The rule in my house, since my son graduated high-school and was over 19, was if your not coming home for the night just tell me. He has taken vacations without us and us without him.
As long as you don't expect your parents to pay for anything, go. A lot of parents don't realize that darling is grown now and can make their own decisions. Just make good ones.

Your parents are just concerned for you. You are, however an adult. You don't need their permission. You don't have to be confrontational or disrespectful about it, but you might remind them of that. If they threaten you with not paying for college anymore, be realistic. Do you think that they would essentially stop your education because you decided to leave town with your friends? Sometimes parents need to learn the hard way, also. Try talking to them..present your case with respect and like and adult. Then go anyway. Good luck.

You are 22 years old, you can go if you want to. The only thing I'd say is that you should pay for your trip on your own. Just assure your parents that you are responsible enough and you will be fine.

well, if they are paying for your college and giving you money then you have to still listen to them BUT if they dont support you then hey, your 22 years old. OR you could tell them your staying home doing homework and then call them and tell them your doing work and dont have time for phone calls. Thats what me 22 years old does to me. so. lol
