I can download movies and play them on my computer (for the most part), but I just can't seem to figure out how to burn them to DVD. What do I need, and where can I get it for free? Please Help!!!

Easy. Just start a nice big fire in the fireplace and toss in the whole computer!

important be fore you attempt to burn the movie file do you have the hardware needed to write (burn) a DVD disk or do you only have a cd burner drive the hardware you have can limit your options since you apparently have the software.

I myself have only a cd burner/reader no dvd capable drive is in my computer. I can only burn a cd not a dvd. knowing that someone trying to burn a dvd on my computer would get frustrated and eventually be required to give up due to the hardware incompatiblity.

assuming you have the hardware the only place i can point you to for a free program would be http://www.magnisiummedia.com
be warned they have a very slow download speed.
or just use the software that came with the hardware.

That depends on what type format the video is in when you download it (divx/xvid avi, mpg, bin/cue, etc.) and what you want to play it as on your dvd player (vcd/svcd/dvd).

This can be a long and complicated process depending on the format you start with, and the quality level you want to output too.

If the movie is .mpg, or bin/cue, you're in luck. As you just have to burn using the appropriate burning method (ie: vcd or svcd for .mpg, and burn as an image with bin/cue) and it should play. For .avi or any non mpeg compressed or image format, you will need to convert.

See the following sites for guides on how to prepare vcd (MPEG-1), svcd (MPEG-2) or dvd (MPEG-2):
