I'm giving away one of my two puppy beagles, both 6 months old, brother and sister. I don't want to, and I love them both very dearly, but me and my family pretty much has to.

Here's the story:
My father recently sold his business in September. Ever since then, my family has had severe money problems. My dad had no job for about 2 months, and my mother's real estate business was almost non-existent. We had no money. We had bought the dogs about 3 weeks before he sold the business, so we had no idea we were going to face this problem. Well now, my father and mother are getting divorced, and my mother does not have enough money for most of her bills, nevermind supporting two puppies, who need frequent doctor's appointments and neutering operations, etc.

Now my question is, which dog should I give away? The boy or the girl? Does one deal with the separtation better than the other? Also, are boys or girls easier to take care of?Thanks for your help during this sad time for me.

Yea, it's real tough for me, I've put so much work into trying to raise them right...it's just so depressing that I have to give one away...I like the idea of volunteering, and I have a friend that works at the animal hospital. But it's cutting in close, since a family is coming to take the dog tomorrow. It hurts real bad now that I'm thinking about it. I honestly don't know what to do...

Give away both dogs? Boy, that would be the hardest thing in the world...I couldn't imagine doing that. But I think you are right...it'll be tough, but it seems the best answer...

The boy is cheaper to neuter than the female is to spay. And the girl could get pregnant and that would cost you. Place the girl with someone who will spay her.

What a sad situation. It will be cheaper to neuter the boy than to spay the girl. Whichever one you decide to part with, be sure to find it a good home. Don't put a "free to a good home" ad in the paper; some nasty people respond to those ads. If you take the dog to a shelter, be sure to have them contact you if the dog is scheduled to be killed so you can get it out and try again to find a good home. There may be a beagle rescue in your area; they will be no-kill and can put the dog in a foster home until a permanent home is found. You can also post flyers at area vet clinics and ask them if anyone there might be willing to foster the dog. Or maybe you can find a super-sympathetic vet who would give you a deal on their care, and maybe then you could afford to keep both of them.

Good luck!

I don't know how old you are, but perhaps you should offer to get a job to help support your animals.

If you do need to adopt out one of your animals, be sure you investigate the family to be sure the animal will be well taken care of after it's adoption.

My personal opinion is that female dogs are easier to care for as they do not have a tendency to 'mark' their territory. Many people will have varying opinons on which sex animal they prefer. I simply prefer the females.

Good luck and I'm sorry for your situation. Ask the vet's office if you can do some volunteer work to offset the cost of your animals. It never hurts to ask.

All the best.

I suggest you give both puppies to a family willing to adopt them as a pair. They will be happier having each other to play with.

A lot of vets and some so-called experts will disagree with me on the following....

In general, I think it's far easier managing a female dog than a male. Females are less likely to try to fight than male dogs are. Put off spaying a female until after her first menstruation. That will give her body more time to benefit from hormones.

I discourage neutering male dogs. If you leave a male dog intact (not neutered), he will stay healthier, stronger, leaner, and will not age as fast as a neutered dog. Neutered dogs tend to get fat and lazy--not good. So why do so many people neuter male dogs? Typically it's because such people don't know how to control a male dog, especially an intact one; hence they shouldn't get male dogs, but should instead get females. Females are much easier to manage.

The local pound or SPCA should be able to help with the costs of neutering or spaying, if you explain your situation they may even be able to help with food. The separation will probably be equally distressing to both pups, so I quess if you have to give one up, keep your favorite. Make sure you find a good home, as some people don't treat hunting types of dogs well. Good luck

I won't and can't tell u which beagle to give away, it will hurt u no matter which one. U neuter the male, and spay the female. It is a toss up on which is the best. I've raised beagles alll my life. U have to make the decision on which one u prefer or if u can't give them both away, don't let them in breed, I had a brother and sister breed, it was terrible. Please hurry and make up u'r mind. God Bless u.

Bidawee, ASPCA and Friends of Animals all offer free and low cost spaying and neutering for people with low incomes. ASPCA offers vet clinics which offer reduced fee vet care. Check these things out before you give one of the dogs away. Either dog you choose to give away if going to miss you and its littermate terribly. Before deciding to give one away make every effort to keep them both.

I hope you find a good home for the pet.. I am sure that the dog will miss you very much.. It is so sad to give away a pet because it is not good for the pet.. Pets have feelings also and people forget that they do.

give both away to a loving home where they can stay together then go to the animal shelter and rescue a puppy, that way its a win win situation for all three dogs and you

the worst thing u can do is to give them or either one of them away to just any random person/couple/family

I have a female that we took just by herself and she's very very happy.

If I had to tell you, I would say the female.
