I have a doctors appointment tomorrow (Nurse does it I guess) and I have to get a shot in my a**.

Does it hurt? What's it like?

Also how is it given (Ie: What's the procedure like)? Standing or laying, etc.?

It depends on how thick the solution being injected is. Penicillin hurts lick heck, insulin doesn't

the thicker it is the slower they have to go when injecting.

It is usually done with you just leaning on the exam table no major bend over stuff.

It depends on who does it and how. I have had people that prefer me to stand and some that would rather me lay. I have had many different shots there. Depo or meds for migraines. It really isnt bad. Sometimes they burn a little and sometimes they bruise a little but the burning lasts maybe a few minutes. These arent that bas and I am afraid of shots! And they do all of these in the hip area! like said above you unbutton your pants and barely pull down where you want the shot. you will be fine!

I had a shot in the butt for kindergarten, and let me just say it hurt terribly! It actually bruised so bad it was the size of a soft ball. I couldn't sit on my butt for a week or more! I seriously think it traumatized me, because to this day, I still have a hard time when it comes to needles- and usually end up with bad luck and they stick me 10 times. Anyways- I was very young of course, so i laid across my dad, and the doctor gave it to me. That was 20 yrs ago haha! Goodluck!

For me I stood up and bent over the table leaning on my elbows. I kept a magazine to read, although I never actually read it lol. It actually goes into your rear up high, just below your waist. Don't put pressure on that side of your body, and most of all do your best not to tense up when they do it. That's what makes it hurt later. Overall, it didn't hurt any more than any other shot I've ever gotten, it's just nerve-wracking. You'll do fine, and you'll look back and think "that wasn't so bad", that is until the next time you have to have it done lol.

Doesn't hurt at all. You don't even feel it. They inject you in the meaty part at the top of your butt when laying on a table. Yoou don't have to drop your pants, just need to pull them down a bit past your hips. And if you are under the age of thirty, you probably already wear your pants low enough-lol
