I have three boxers and a Dobe mix . The mix is the oldest and they get along great but the boxers high energy level and roughness when playing can be a problem for smaller dogs, I would get a breed of similar size and toughness, if you want to go a little smaller and money is not a concern I would go with a english Bulldog. But I think boxers are best with boxers ,It's awsome to watch them box each other on their back legs and then lay all over each other when its done.

I don't own a Boxer personally, but I dog sit for 2 Boxers seperately.. one just turned a year old and the other is 8 years old. They both get along extremely well with my Siberian Husky and they have a tight bond. I noticed Boxers have a LOT of energy, and a Husky is one that can definetly keep up with that. The 8 year old Boxer and my Husky are like best friends. When I take the 1 year old and my Husky to the park, the Boxer stays attached to my dog at the hip, even though there are so many other dogs around to sniff and play with. I have had nothing but good experiences with these breeds together.

Of course, Huskies are a very different breed of dog and if that's what you decide, a lot of research will be involved!

I had a whippet when my boxer was a puppy. The whippet was afraid of him at first (when baby Max was half his size) but when Max the boxer started getting older, Bennett the whippet realized he was a big softie and started dragging him around the yard by his lips. Cruel old dog.
Now they get along fine, the Bennett using Max as a giant heat pillow, and Max using Bennett like one of those little cleaner birds on a buffalo. I think Max could use a sturdier, more active friend whose idea of fun extends to more than fetch, sleeping, and hazing the new guy.
If any dogs are ill-suited to being friends with boxers, it's the sighthounds. They just come from totally different worlds.
As for other breeds, few have the energy to keep up with a boxer. Get something that likes constant play, and, of course, won't get squashed.

I have a 4.5 yo male Boxer and I've found that he plays best with either other Boxers, or other bully type breeds. He does get along well with my bosses Doberman, and my friends Rott, but they are young and very playful. I have a feeling that if they met when they were older, Gryphon (my Boxer) would be too much for them. They also don't understand the typical "Boxer Boxing" type play and get frustrated with him. The only other older dog that has gotten along well with him was a Pit Mix.

I think Boxers would be alright with any other breed as long as it weighs atleast 25 lbs (or grow into 25lbs).

I have a Boxer, Husky and a 4month Boston Terrier. The Boxer and Husky play just fine, he gets a little rough sometimes, but she puts him in his place.

My boxer is good with little dogs (temperment wise) however, he so hyper and high strung he has no idea how big he is and when he tries to play he usually hurts the little dogs (pomerianims, shih tzus, poodles etc.) He loves other dogs though, just too rough.

You know they say the puppy'ness doesn't start to wear off in Boxers until about 5 years old. =)

I think any dog altleast 25lbs and bigger would be just fine with a Boxer.

That's a very good question. And it's a question that I have heard asked a thousand times in my 12 yrs of experience as a k9 trainer and handler. Some people believe that dogs are more compatible by breeds. This is a myth folks. Dogs even though they may be different breeds or mixtures of different breeds with different characteristics and different drives and what seems like different personalities they are all still DOGS. They all are the same species and all have the same primal instincts regardless of the breed or even size. The key is socialization, training and pack leadership on your part. So you see any dog can be compatible and socialized with another as long as it's done properly. It really doesn't have anything to do with breed.

You have not lived until you have two Boxers. They are funny, goofy, fun loving, cuddly and very loving.. I have 2 myself. I would get a Boxer only because of the way they play. They BOX. Thus the name. They can get large 50 - 70 lbs so I would rule out small breeds. Make sure you get the opposite sex of the one you have now. I would also suggest that you have them spayed and neutered to avoid any unwanted pregnancies. Boxers are prone to cancer and spaying the female can prevent this. Males are prone to things also which the neutering can help prevent. Mine are 55 and 58 lbs. (Fawn female and reverse brindle boy both fixed) Both are rescues and fill my life with love and lots of laughs.
Good luck.
