My grandmother had Bells palsy. She woke up one day and half of her face was sagging. I had a co-worker who woke up one day and found half of his face sagging. It can happen to anyone. If she has dr.s saying it's the first sign of a stroke and they didn't send her to the hospital, get rid of that Dr, and get a new one.

Hi,
First to relieve your worry it sounds like it might be "Bells Palsy" and NOT a stroke. BP has ALL the same symtoms and is a virus that comes on suddenly when one side of the face is exposed to COLD.
In my case 15 years ago I was HOT and had the A/C in the car blowing directly on my face. I woke up on the morning and the coffee dribbled out one side of my mouth because only half of my lips were working. I also realized that my forhead would only wrinkle on one side and that I had to close my right eye manually when I slept. I could NOT pronounce "F", "S" or "P" and EVERYONE thought it was either a stroke, major dental work or that I was drunk.
The prescribed treatment was; steroids, electrical stimulation or patience and a sense of humor. I chose the later. It took just under a year to go away, but I still can't whistle and I am VERY conscious of A/C.
I was teaching and coaching so we all had a GOOD laugh, I took my share of POKING and we got on with it.
I was diagnosed IMMEDIATELY at one of those Ugrent Care places with NO specialist or a battery of tests.
Just do NOT let your mom go down the "endless tests" road until her doctors have confirmed that it is NOT "BP".
Good luck,
Jacques

It could have been a stroke - some are very mild, others more severe - but I'm surprised they didn't admit her for more tests - as well as stroke, there are also a number of other neurological conditions which could cause this to happen - you need to seek a second opinion.

Bells Palsy is sometimes brought on with stress, it does usually subside, only time will tell. bells palsy has naff all to do with pregnancy, but however it can be a side effect from a stroke, not all bells palsy cases are stroke related.

That is a sign of a stroke. Perhaps they believe the stroke is easily preventable with excercise or medicine. If not, they may think it is something else. What that something else is, I don't know.

Could be Bell's Palsey. Trigeminal nerve irritation. Nothing to do with pregnancy. Something as simple as a fan blowing in your face can trigger it. Physical therapy to desensitize the nerve will sometimes help.

Bells Palsy does not only happen when you are pregnant. My brother-in-law has it. And yes what you describe could be stroke or bells palsy.
