The UN has no troops.

The troops are not dying in countless numbers, the war is not endless it is just not over. As for not supporting the President, I am and was a soldier. I spent a year in Iraq and saw the complexity of the problem, I can tell you that the troops are damn happy that we have Bush in the White-house instead of a Democrat. What you do not understand is that the war has cost fewer lives then any war in American History, we have held more ground then at any time since WW II and 90% of Iraq is pacified. The Kurds are having tourists, Falluja with all the previous trouble is repopulating in an orderly fashion. You have one city with 50% unemployment where the people are killing each other for 40 years of revenge and repression with the goal being who gets to draw the oil welfare check.

Get that! Not who gets to work to build a better life, or who will lead the way to reconciliation, it is all about who gets to draw the government check and sit on the grass matt. That is what the Sunni's did under Saddam, that is what the Shia want, it is their turn after all! Of course the Sunni insist that only they are qualified to sit on their butts, after all they have lots of practice and even though they had neat job titles under Saddam, they are not really qualified to do much else.

Try to remember, anyone in Iraq has failed one very revealing test, they where too stupid and unmotivated to leave Iraq under Saddam. That is why they are slow to roll up their sleeves and dig in, that is why the only ones willing to pick up a gun and take up policing and soldiering are those who have an Axe to grind and a desire to turn into a thug. That is why we have a problem.

It is not a failure of Bush, it is a failure of the Iraqi's, they are not children, they are responsible for their own failures.

This is a very difficult question.

Obviously, most everyone wants our troops to come home safe - but, at the same time, most folks would like to see the Islamic terrorists and their demented ideology defeated.
Kind of a catch 22 without even considering our commitment to the Iraqi people.

Whether or not we support Bush is no longer the issue - the issue is what do we do now? How do we best honor our commitment to the Iraqi people who have supported us? How do we not allow the terrorists a victory of any kind? How do we address the problem of Islamic terror in the future if we retreat now?
And these are just a few of the questions presently complicating this situation.
Hopefully, some solutions will be forthcoming and perhaps a new direction or at least some more optimistic options in the near future.

Against the Iraq War but since we started it we need to finish it. Of course there is the possibility that with Saddam in power we would have eventually had to go to war at some point. Who knows? I just think the money could have been better spent in the USA on domestic energy development. Mind you, I'm not some idiot who is blindly anti-War or anti-military. Until everyone in the world ceases to be aggressive there will always be a need for a military. As long as countries compete for land and resources there will be war. People who campaign to end all wars or get rid of the military are living in a dreamworld.

Because the UN sucks. The UN has never solved anything, and they never will. They think that peace, hugs, and bunny rabbits solve everything, but they need to wake up to the reality of this world: it doesn't. That is the same democratic thinking. They want to think that people are good at heart, when in reality, it is the total opposite. I still don't understand why so many people are against the war. Let me ask you this: where would you rather have the war fought: Iraq or the US? I thought that 9/11 would have taught us all that it is better to fight abroad.

The war has been over for almost two years. Now we are trying to police all of Iraq. Like a bad urban neighborhood, the fighting is between members of Iraq, with a little Al Qaida mixed in, and we catch a few bullets and car bombs on the way.

I was not against the war but I am against serving as Iraq's police force. I keep the two separate, and will support a draw down even though I supported the war prior to catching Saddam.

The U.N. is corrupt. They dragged their feet in the beginning of this whole deal; I never expected them to get involved anyway.

Understand that what you see on the news is not everything that is happening over there. I'm a veteran who served two tours in Iraq and I'm really ticked that the news agencies would rather report on bombs and death counts as if all we do is walk out our hooches and yell, 'hey terrorist, i'm over here! Kill me!'

It's not an neverending war. We've been there for less than 4 years. Compare that with WWII, Korea (which is technically still a war), and Vietnam. When you compare death counts, we've actually saved more lives than in any other war.

Educate yourself.

They came in at the very beginning of the war (when the US didn't even want them there) and their entire mission got blown up with a suicide truck bomb. The US has it's security Green zone protecting all top US officials in Iraq but the UN doesn't have that kind of security. Plus they know that Iraq is a lost cause that can never be won and they don't want to settle in there if a massive civil war breaks out soon.

The UN is a paper tiger It is mostly made up of commies, 3rd world S-holes and various other "Countries" that hate America. Were doing fine on our own and as usual we will drag every one else through it kicking and screaming and they will wind up thanking us for it by the end as usual

The UN is composed of many countries. Many of these countries don't support the invasion of Iraq by the US. Many are actively working against the US in nearly every area.

And it's a terrible war. No clearly defined enemies, horrible civil war going on, masses of civilian deaths, 3000 Americans killed and 20,000+ wounded, no exit plan, no way out.

Who wants to be a part of Bush's folly?
