You should always carry a PEZ dispenser, something a little retro for such occurrences.
Simply pull that swanky PEZ dispenser out of your pocket. Turn to he and suavely ask if she would like some PEZ?

Say hello and ask her for the time, or a pencil or paper or something. Ask her what she is studying. Figure out something that would fit your situation.
