,Chopped spinach looks very appealing, doesn't change the flavour much but, adds tons of vitamins. Add last minute and serve when the spinach is just wilted.

here is a great spaghetti recipe

2 large Italian sweet sausage
1 pound ground chuck
1 yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic
(28 oz) can of whole tomatoes
1 can tomato paste
Olive oil
basil
oregano
2 or 3 squirts of ketchup (this is the secret)
1 lb (16 oz) spaghetti pasta, Italian
Salt
Olive oil

Grated Parmesan cheese

The Sauce:
Take the Italian sausage meat out of the sausage casings. Break up into pieces and mix the hamburger and sausage meats together. Brown both the meats in a large skillet on medium high or high heat with a little olive oil. In a separate skillet sauté the onions and garlic until the onions are translucent. Purée the tomatoes in a blender, add to the skillet with the sausage meat. Add the cooked onions and garlic.and tomato paste, squirt in the ketchup. add a dash of dried basil and oregano. mix all together, and put on a slow simmer.

The Pasta
Everyone has their favorite way of making pasta.
Fill an 8-quart or larger stock pot at least half full with water and bring to a boil. Add a tablespoon of salt. add the pasta, stirring to prevent clumping. Allow the water to come to a boil again. Cook, uncovered, with a fairly vigorous boil, for as long as the directions on the pasta package say, usually about 10-12 minutes. When pasta is al dente (cooked but still a little firm), remove the pot from the heat, add a cup or two of cold water to the pasta to stop the cooking. Drain the water from the pasta through a colander. Place the pasta in a serving bowl, add a teaspoon or so of olive oil or butter and mix in with the pasta so that the pasta stays separated.

Serve immediately. Garnish with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. the one in the triangle that you have to grate yourself. it makes all the difference.

Try adding some chopped peppers. I prefer green but you could try red or even yellow. Instead of regular meat sauce or meatballs, try slicing some Italian sausage in even sized chunks and cooking them in a frying pan. Add to sauce when browned. Also try some grated cheese over the sauce. You can buy some really good ones already shredded. Parmesan and mozzarella are great with tomato dishes. Mushrooms go well with spaghetti too. Use whole small button mushrooms or simply slice some larger ones. You don't need to cook them first. Just toss in the sauce.

Good ideas so far.

I love mushrooms and olives in spaghetti sauce. Black olives usually match best with tomato sauce, and I tend to go for whole, pitted olives instead of ones with the pits still in or sliced since they look nicer. Garlic is also an easy thing to add and make it taste authentic.

I use to buy Barilla Black & Green Olive jarred sauce, then we wanted something different so I started making Vodka Sauce with Penne pasta. My family LOVES it. I hardly ever make plain old spaghetti anymore. Just penne w/vodka sauce, garlic bread & a green salad....

Why not try a Spaghetti Bake? Add as many ingredients as you want or like, layer them in a baking dish. Topped with your favorite sauce and cheese, garnished with your favorite herbs. Served with some good warm bread and a nice salad and drink.......ENJOY

Saute garlic in olive oil, add broccoli, then (already cooked) noodles, sauce, oregano, red pepper flakes, spinach leaves, sliced green olives, and crumbled feta. Serve immediately. Also delicious with hot Italian sausage.
