My family had a cat (Adult male Cat 15+), he was resting on top of the TV, a friend got in his face and started baby talking to him "Oh.. What a pretty kitty.." then He did not like it and he bit him on his nose, hard. The bite did not break his skin, just a little red.

Maybe he doesn't realize he's been "fixed" Male cats will bite females on the back of the neck during the breeding just to hold the female still. The 'bite' does not break the skin.

There are a number of reasons. I have an 18 year old that I had to put on "kitty depressants", or so I like to call it. An older cat can be very upset easily and they get grouchy. He could have something going on inside that bothers/ hurts them and you don't know either. Once I put her on the drugs (amitripyline...I'm probably spelling it wrong), she was much, much better. Also, cats just plain and simple have a mind of their own. It could be anything that him off. Don't think he's mean and should be put down. Go see if there's something wrong with him first at a Vet.

I mean was the cat showing body signs of any threats? Some cats are just like that. I guess it depends on the person and he just probably didn't want to be bothered. It's sometimes a bad sign of a cat starts to wag their tail and their ears go back. Cats are unpredictable.

I guess that cat felt that his space was being invaded and wanted to tell the guy to back off. Nobody likes it when strange people get up in their faces. Maybe the guy had bad breath.

the cat was politely asking him to back off. if he wanted to be mean, he would have done more damage.
