From the New Testament it appears that they were waiting for the return of Christ not long after he ascended back into heaven. During the great plagues in Europe people believed that Christ was returning.
The Jehovah's Witnesses believe that he will return soon as they believe that 1914 was the beginning of the end. They believe that all those who were alive at this time will see the return of Christ.

I see you are getting anxious. No one knows the hour or day of His return, so busy yourself with living a good life and trust in Christ, so you will be ready. If anyone tells you they know don't believe them, scripture is clear that no man knows only God. Be patient, He will return. Picture it if it were tomorrow, would you be ready. Ok step back from the religious babble and think. There is no god. The bible is just stories. Jesus is not comng back because, if he really existed, he is a pile of bleached bones in the middle east. Yes, you will be dead "soon", as will I. all the more reason to stop wasting your time thinking round in circles about fairy stories.

All religions believe in a second comig of thier God to end evils for ever.Hindus believe that Vishnu will come as Kalki.Christians ,Anti-Christ,Buddhists also believe in a final Buddha.But when nobody knows.Let us wait and see the true God who keeps the promise.
