Is the area red, oozing puss or heated to the touch? Some piercings will be sore, but if it has those symptoms, you might be getting an infection. You shouldn't be pressing hard on the piercing anyway. Keep cleaning it with sea salt soaks and Dial soap and water and if the feeling gets worse over the next 1-2 weeks or you notice green pus, inflammation or large amounts of redness consult a piercer.
Also, its best if you go to a piercer and show them the area. Its hard to tell exactly what the problem is since no one here can see it.
Furthermore; if the area is painful, the last thing you should be thinking about is changing the jewelry. The only reason you would have to change the jewelry now is if the jewelry is made of poor quality or impure metals and is the cause of the pain you are in (that should not be the case if you went to a professional). Navel piercings take an average of 6 months to heal, for some people it takes up to a year. As someone with 6 navel piercings and no problems with any of them, I suggest you wait at least 4 months, but in general try to prolong changing jewelry until you are certain the piercing is healed.

i think i can help you, i got my belly button pierced about 3 years ago and it really gave me a lot of trouble...oh, and some of my advice may seem obvious but you'd be surprised how many piercing salons give wrong information to their customers so just bear with me :)
first of all, don't use anything that is a cream or ointment on your belly button, if anyone advises an antibiotic cream, ignore them...there is an open and healing wound in your skin that will absorb anything you put on it...believe me thats the first thing i did wrong because i didnt know any better, i used an antibiotic ointment (as the piercing place told me to) and it all accumulated inside the hole where the piercing was to the point where all the skin around the piercing was hard to the touch and very painful, i had to go to a better piercing salon to get all that extra stuff along with pus squeezed out, believe me it hurt, you dont want that to happen to you...i recommend using a saline solution specially formulated for piercings (such as H2OCEAN), it really speeds the healing process if used regularly, however, don't overuse it or essentially what is the "wound" where your piercing is will remian moist and not have a chance to fully dry out and heal, if you're concerned about disinfecting it i recommend that you buy prepackaged antiseptic alcohol swabs (like the ones doctors use right before giving you a shot), use it right before the saline solution to disinfect the area...it will sting a little but it really helps keep the area free of bacteria and ward off infection.....
finally, if you just got the piercing 2 weeks ago it's normal that it is still tender to the touch, everybody has different healing rates so for some it may take longer than others, i would only be concerned if it feels like there is a hard lump where your piercing is, that may indicate excess pus and you should get it removed by a professional......and two weeks is DEFINITELY NOT long enough to remove the piercing and change the ring, to be on the safe side I'd wait AT LEAST one month since you got pierced and then evaluate how the healing is going, if you take out the ring too soon you'll find it difficult and painful to put in the new one and you might possibly tear the tissue around the piercing that is still healing thereby prolonging the healing process....
i hope all this helps you out, and forgive the tremendously long answer but i find its best not to leave anything to the imagination that might ultimately do more harm than good....good luck!!

i got mine pierced three years ago. Trust me- wait as long as possible befor eyou take it out! I took mine out 3 weeks after and i regretted it. it was sore for like 2 months and this weird gross red skin came out of the bottom part of my belly button ( ithink the person didnt use a hollow needle) honestly my belly didn't even heal for like a full 5 months. try to keep it in for atleast 5-6 weeks it'll be worth it!
also - if you take it out too early it can create scar tissue - meaning when you're older and want it to close back up, it could leave a scar or it just wont close/grow back

You should wait for a longer time before changing the piercing, but if you are experiencing pain that does not just feel like a slight discomfort, but actual pain, you could have an infection. Let me warn you, infections in this area are pretty common and pretty bad. Make sure to keep it clean, leave it alone, and try not to put pressure on it.

yes your piercing can take up to a year to fully heal. yes you can go back tot he shop and get it changed "downsized" since most of the swelling is gone. but cannot do it yourself without the risk of the hole closing up. you will need to wait 4 more weeks to change it on yoru own. but if i were you i would go back tot he shop and have them do it for me just incase i had complications. thats hwat i did and you should to! they said 2 weeks cause you can Downsize it "get a smaller piece of jewelry" just keep taking care of it! sea salt soaks and aftercare pierce solution
my navel piercing is 5 months old and is still healing. thejewelry is still crusting. i got it downsized last month wheni got 2 more cartilage piercings =)
