When i run in very cold weather, i always end up with a cough when i return back indoors, and this seems to be a problem me and all my friends have when we run in very cold weather.
My question is, Is running in the cold weather beneficial over say an indoor treadmill?

I love running when it is around 20F. You have to make sure that you get stretched out well while you are still inside because once you are outside you can't stop to stretch without your muscles getting cold. I usually try to start out easy because I don't have anywhere to warm up indoors. I usually run in trails in the woods or around some athletic fields where it is slick and fairly easy to pull something by slipping, but a side walk or track would probably be much better. Make sure that you wear at least one layer that you can take off before you start to sweat, I usually end up carrying my jacket and running in my long sleeve shirt.

probably no benefit to cold weather running, other than the exercise.

just a side note, a friend of mine went to nothern canada in the winter near fort good hope. he said at -40 the body couldn't warm the air fast enough if you were breathing hard (running) and outside. it could be deadly. he also said his eye lashes froze.

don't go running in -40.

Depends on what's chasing you. Some people are especially sensitive, and cold air can trigger an asthma attack. And the colder it is, the riskier.
