They should not run or play rough for about 10 days until the stitches come out. There is a danger of pulling a stitch out with too much exercise. They can not jump up or down from things (bed, couch etc) for the same amount of time. They will let you know after about 4 days how they are feeling. Take them out on leashes so they are not tempted to run and play with each other. You might, if you have one, crate them for the first few days. The vet will give you instructions on what they should and should not do and how to care for them. Good to see a responsible owner.

EXCUSE ME?! I am NOT a redneck! Basset hounds are my FAVORITE dog, and I don't see them as a redneck dog at ALL. Way to stereotype! My family has raised Basset Hounds, and some have even been champions. My Basset Hound, Cloe Basset, is sired by a CHAMPION. I paint portraits of her, drawings, pictures. Best dog I've ever had. If you want a Basset, don't not get one just because you think that they are "red neck dogs". My father payed well over 4,500 for mine, and he doesn't regret it a bit.

How do you mean recover? My girls took about a week to get back to 100%. They tried to jump up on things and do their normal routines within 48 hours, but I did my best to keep them crated and settled for the first week to allow the stitches to heal properly.
It's just important that they not jump up on things or go for strenuous walks for the first week. And no bath until after the stitches come out or approx 14 days.
They'll be fine. :)

They should be back to themselves in a couple of days and fully recovered within a week or two.

Dogs are extremely resilient, ours bounced back in less than a week. I was surprised, she is only a year old, so that could be why she healed so fast.
Hope this helps.

it depends on the drugs they use and the time of the surgery but normally they will be quite active when you arrive to pick them up. they will be acting normally the day after, and all usual activities can be done after the stitches are removed (about 10 days later) youre vet will advise you/ give you information on this when they are discharged.

Mine usually are back to normal by the next day, but they should be kept as quiet as possible for the next 10 days.
