Painting it wont change the size. It may appear smaller. What will happen is that the wall will absorb all light hitting it. Your room will be dark and will require a lot of additional lighting to illuminate it enough to read and do other things. Then when you decide to cover it with a lighter color, like white, good luck.

That sounds cute but black will make your room look smaller than it is and it's a pain in the *** to paint over when you decide you want a change. You could try painting it like a gold/ champagne-y color it'll open up your room while still giving it a vintage feeling like the rooms on tumblr. Or you could do a lighter color with a feature wall or use a cute patterned wall paper. With a light colored bed room you can also write quotes with a dark color.

If you paint it black and dislike it you will have quite a chore in covering it up, id advise hanging some black hangings or silhouette pictures or black curtains but definitely wouldn't paint the wall black .Also put a little black thru out the room.Lot easier changing the rooms accents than the wall color.

I did the same thing and I love the way it turned out. It doesn't seem smaller,it gives the room a classy look to me. I painted the other walls a dark beige with red accents.

Any dark color will make the room appear smaller. If you really like the look then try it out, just repaint the other walls and the ceiling a brighter white to counteract the black wall.

. as long as youre leaving three of the walls white, it will not make a major impact on visual perception of room size. the look of white furniture will be very dramatic against a black wall, and the look of black accessories against the white walls will also be a dramatic statement. its a very timeless and classic look--go for it!
i have a friend who painted her studio with 2 black walls and 2 white walls and has a black and white checkerboard tile on the floor and white floor to ceiling shutters on the windows. she has white marble statues against the black walls. her grand piano sits right in the center--she teaches piano lessons out of this room. its one of the most dramatic spaces ive ever seen.

It won't shrink the room size visually, especially with all the white in the room. Hang a big mirror or picture on it to bring in some color.
