Hence- the name of this forum....I do not think anyone will just throw out their beliefs to suit others...I know I sure won't. But we dont need to quarrel about it either.

What?!!!
Pretty much preach for the good and betterment of human kind?
Where have you been? Your head is stuck in the sand!
It is because of false counterfeit religion that people are dying, and being tortured, and trafficked, and starving, and homeless, and sick, and family-less. Innocent beings who need love and care, who were left behind by their families for one reason or another.
Instead of ignoring and putting away, we need to stand up against the darkness and the differences that are a cancer to mankind and all that is good.
How irresponsible and foolish it is to ignore the evil that causes horrendous things like this

I'm glad you're not the President!
If you truly are distressed about people in need, then I suggest instead of reprimanding blindly, use your energy to go volunteer at a Hospital, or homeless kitchen, or find some poor people and give them half of your sandwich!

It's healthy to quarrel a bit, but if you noticed there isn't anyone here that's going to kill someone if they don't agree. We all agree to disagree. Yes there are people suffering all around the world...and it sux. You know whats worse then those people suffering? Those that take advantage of them. All those TV ads that are claiming to raise money for the homeless or starving, crippled etc. How much money or goods are actually getting to them? You'd be shocked to know how little goes to them, and how much goes into the pockets of the........lets call them salesmen. You wanna make a difference? Go spend time at the local homeless shelter, food pantry, soup kitchens, go to a local church and ask for a list of people that need help, take them into your home for a Christmas diner, Thanksgiving diner, or how about just for a diner for know other reason but to help some one. Most won't and most don't, but they will send money to some where unknown. How many people wish someone a good day and mean it sincerely? People are to stuck on themselves.

Who says having our differences hinders us from doing good and not having respecters of persons year around? Christians do not believe in doing their alms to where men can see them and sounding a loud trumpet that says "Look at my good deeds". I think we just don't always see the good that's being done because the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing but when judgment day comes, we will know and be rewarded accordingly. Wouldn't you agree?

Seems rather like a short speech than a question.
The answer, of course, is no. For many people, religion is not simply a casual alliance with a neighborhood church - it is the rock on which they found everything they do, and for many, the source of the only hope and encouragement they see in the world. (The most fanatic about religion tend to be the poorest of the poor - and they are usually the ones who commit the greatest atrocities.)
Everything they do and everything they are comes from their religion - so while it may sound reasonable in the US to say "put away our differences," in Africa and in the Middle East and in many places - that means death. That means denying who you are and your understanding of your place in the world.
Jesus said, "Those who are not with me are against me." In Islam, those who do not believe words of the Holy Prophet (Blessed Be His Name) are not worthy of life. And so on. In some African languages, the word for stranger and the word for enemy are the same.
Religion may not be important to you, but for many in the world - and many of those for whom you mourn and worry - it is crucial, and they would sooner die than give it up, And they do, every day, in ways great and small.
Before you can really start to help people in other places, first youhave to start to understand them - and that begins by learning how important their religion is to them.

I believe most people in this Forum can have a fair amount of mutual respect and compromise to each others' beliefs to find the SIMILARITIES between the faiths and not throw away their own beliefs... BUT.... there will always be ONE or TWO nasty eggs in the basket who would just insist on ruining other people's parties just cause they can't enjoy their own...

Our religion or belief is what shapes our life. Many people do not do something they think is wrong because their religion fobids it and because of fear from loosing their salvation... i think religion shapes the life of a person, and sometime society itself... imagine a world without religion or personal beliefs, or if there was just one religion,,,, that would suck woulnt it? what about if u were against that religion? your only choice would be to rebel and start ur own beliefs and die for them...

I guess I would have to say to keep your faith close to your heart, take care of yourself and your family, and don't press your beliefs on others. If everyone did these three things, I promise that the world would be a better place.

I can agree with this. Just don't forget us atheists who desire the betterment of mankind (not that I think you did, just wanted to blow my own atheistic horn).
It always struck me as strange that religious folk here in this country often seem more preoccupied with what two consenting adults do naked than the vast real horrors out there.
Time to break out the ol' checkbook.

"Our religions all pretty much preach for the good and betterment of human kind."
I have a picture of the World Trade Centre towers, before 9/11. It was religion that turned them into a big hole in the ground. Do you still want to stand by that statement?
