When i gel my fringe forward into spikes it's straight, but the second the gel dries, the spikes are all over the place crossing over and what not. Why's this happening and how can i stop it to keep it straight?

it sounds like you have a natural kink in your hair do what i do straighten with some sraightning irons make sure you get up to the roots pull down towards your face be very carefull then use wax i like the dax range rub a small ammount through your fingers and pull through your fringe you get a nice choppy effect and no curl it works trust me problem solved

the secret to keep your fringe upright is this. Years ago when Punk Rockers was around to make their hair stay spiked was to use soap. It is cheap and simple, My friends who have a french crop fringe use soap and it is better than wax or gel. Obviously damp the soap a little first.

Since I cant see your hair or know what you are using and the technigque its hard to say for suere but --It sounds like your hair is naturally curly or wavy... it would be hard to keep it straight if you are wetstyling it.. as it dries the curls/waves are going to take shape... there are many styling aids out there to help straighten your hair but most require for your hair to be dried and/or flat ironed. A chemical striaghtener may also be an option as well...
But I need to say again - its extremely hard to offer suggestions over the internet, a stylist that can acutally see your hair can offer more specific suggestions.

I hear elmers glue works 10x better than gel but dont take my word for it. If you don't mind putting some color into your hair though, L.A. Looks makes really awesome colored hair gel that once your hair is spiked, it won't move for s h i t.

Gravity is what keeps your hair from staying up. That and the weight of the products you use.
