I had a cortizone injection in my back yesturday and it was in the spine. I was told that I would be given a sedative for it and that I should expect to be in a lot of pain. When I did get the injection, I didn't get any sedative and it really didn't hurt that much. It felt more like getting blood drawn but with a little more pressure. After having it done, it was a little sore but could still get around without too much pain. Is this really normal and has anyone else experienced this before?

I'm not complaining any, but I was expecting it to be much worse since I did get the injection in the spine. I have been told by others who have gotten them that they do hurt a lot when you get them in any kind of joint.

I do go to Physical Therapy, have tried heat and cold and it doesn't work, and I am also on prescription anti-inflammitories and pain meds. So far the Physical Therapy and exercises and the pain pills have been the only thing to help.

Hi.
While I've had no personal experience, I can relate the experience of my late father. He had the cortizone epideral late in life. They gave him a topical anestetic for the needle. He said it didn't hurt and the relief from the pain kicked fully in within an hour or two. I guess some have a rough time with it and I think the doctors just prepare you for the worse. The relief from the pain lasted close to two years.

I just had a cortisone shot behind my kneecap after having fluid removed. The doctor numbed the area with something cold, but when he gave me the shot he must have hit a nerve bundle because I have never had pain like that before! It hurt for a couple days, but now my knee feels great. It was worth the pain and I plan to go back for my other knee soon.

Cortisone injections lower your immune system.
It is best to use an alternative method like ice on pain for 20 minutes and then heat.
Take Motrin with milk or pepcid AC for fast relief.
For backaches...situps every other day works miracles.

The injections are used to aid other treatments. Continue following the treatment plan and advice of the Physical Therapist that is treating you.
