In genetics, you draw a pedigree, which is like a family tree, showing males (squares) and females (circles) and how they are connected. Usually a pedigree is used for one genetic trait or disease (eg. eye colour or haemophilia) so that you can figure out whether it is autosomal, x-linked, dominant or recessive. The family members coloured in have that trait, the others don't.
