atheists and agnostics are not exclusive, an atheist lacks belief in gods, while an agnostic claims fundamental knowledge of the basis of reality is impossible there is nothing preventing people from being both.

An atheist is actually more open minded since we just don't believe in gods. While an agnostic goes further and claims knowledge of gods is impossible. Of course most agnostics tend to also be atheists.
