benzaclin...?

Question

my doctor gave me a sample of the acne perscription medicine benzaclin. If this works, would I have to continue to take it? How would I get more? I only have a small amount (enough to last a month or so) so if i stop usin git will my acne come back and get worse?

i believe that benzaclin is benzoyl peroxide and clindamycin. the benzoyl peroxide will kill the bacteria that causes acne (works forever, other medications lose their effectiveness over time) I think that clindamycin does the same but is a different drug.

just call your doc and ask him to write you a prescription. they can call it in or you can pick up a paper copy at the office.

Your doctor gave you a sample so you could see if it works without having to pay for the privilege. If it works, then you have a choice whether you want to continue taking it or not. That is your decision. If you decide it works for you and want to continue, you would need to get a prescription from the doctor to get more. It is hard to say if your acne would return if you quit taking it, but more than likely yes it would. As to it getting worse, that depends on you, not the medication. It would not cause your returning acne to be worse, but if you went from a clear complexion to a facial wide breakout it might seem that way. You have a choice here, you can try the medication to see if it will work for you, or not take it. It might work well, it might work so-so, and it might not make any difference at all. There are no guarantees with medication, only a chance it will work. In your case, you don't have to pay to find out, but you have to take the chance to find out. It's your decision to take it, and to decide if you want to continue after that.
