NOVA- sorry but i do not envisage rapists/murderers/child abusers/pornstars/paedophiles/beastialty lovers to enter heaven. do you? why shouldn they get into heaven with you if you good, yet they got all the enjoyment in life yet you abstained. is that not unfair? would that not make the meaning of life a mockery.

d-lin- sorry i do not believe in reincarnation. it is too illogical to think that god would allow all the evil and sufferring in the world to happen and give all the rapists/murderers another life/another chance to enter heaven even though their actions are so disgusting and inhumane. what do you think?

Even most "believers" do NOT really believe in God until calamity and disaster strikes their lives, then we become all prayerful and humble and remorseful... because if we truly did believe in God, why would we do so many things that are harmful, selfish and hateful?

The same goes for "un-believers" when they too reach a state of self calamity that is beyond human capabilities... that is when the mind reaches out to the beyond to find a "higher Power" for help...

I realised that Believers and Un-Believers all sit in the same little basket of eggs...

If you are a confident person and totally assured of your life, and you lead a life of harmony, nobility and general peacefulness, there really is no need for a god figure... I mean heaven forbid look at the world now... the majority of the MOST violent , judgemental, hateful and angry people seem to be the ones that hang a large sign telling the whole world how wonderful their 'god' is while bashing in the head of a child, or cutting the throats of the elderly....

I believe we should have spiritual awareness and qualities... but lose the whole religious fanatism and zealotism that has cause so much pain, suffering and strife over the centuries.

God has his uses:
1. Someone to justify oppression and exploitation of others, through religion.
2. Someone to guarantee ultimate justice and infinite life, which is nice.
3. Someone to give the world and individual purpose.
4. Someone to be your friend, so you are not alone.
5. Someone to take care of nasty words like infinity and time.
God can be there for you for all sorts of situations: geopolitical, existential or interpersonal.
Before God there were Gods and lots more made up stuff. Now we know more and there is less God to go around, but there is still a lot of Nothing out there that needs explaining.
Christians used to say that you go to hell if you don't believe, I don't think the Jews or Muslims have it any easier. The last load of Christians I talked to said being worm-food was bad enough. I could not argue with that.
I made a deal with my self that I would be 'good' during my life just in case so if I am wrong, then God and I can work it out.

Whose God? The christian God, Allah, Anton Le Fey? And then, which sub-system of belief? Catholicism, Anglican, C of E? I personally have my own God, he lets me do what I want, he lets me learn from my mistakes and as long as I don't regret any part of my life he lets me get on with it, to regret ones past is to regret the person you are now and if you don't like the person you are how can you enjoy life? My God lets me eat whatever I like, do what ever I want on any day of the week and there are no commandments. Also Heaven and Hell don't exist just another state of being. When I die my soul, (the thing that makes me different to every other lump of meat out there) which is just chemical/electrical signals produced by neurons electrocuting each other, is let loose on the world (as electricity is energy and doesn't die).
Religion was formed by people to control others, to set up rules which are restrictive and controlling. Why, if we are Gods favourite creation, would he impose limitations upon our happiness and freedom? he wouldn't, that's what humans do, not Gods.
Religion needs to be personal, not institutional. My church is my mind, my prayer is my thoughts and Gods will is my will. I am my own God, why would I send myself to Hell?

Whats your goal? I pray its to get to heaven and if you have heard about Jesus and choose not to believe then you will not enter heaven. Just think where else could we have come from. God is the creator he is the beginning and the end. The Holy Spirit is God! Have you ever felt the Holy Spirit? God Bless!

The proof is all around us...the trees, the flowers the animals, mankind. If you think about it very hard, which is more logical? An explosion that caused everything to just pop up or an Almighty God that created us in His image and loved us enough to send His only Son to die for us so we could be with Him someday. Also, our proof is in the Bible. But greatest of all is that you have faith in Him. And yes we need to believe in God. If you don't accept Jesus as your personal Savior, you will go to hell when you die.

Your question has been asked by humanity since the dawn of our existence. It is a question that all sentient races posess. Yet for all our splendor, our relatively advanced technology, our emotions, our complexity, we still do not have a definite answer. If there is a deity out there, it knows this. And therefore I'm sure it will forgive you if you're wrong.

People do not need to believe in God. But then again, people don't need to believe in morality, elephants, gravity, atoms, etc. if they don't want to.

It is interesting that you asked a few questions that cannot have definite answers, but only opinions. You know that.
We all have beliefs and try to live with them in peace. They are the only way for many people to find an aswer for what cannot be explained. Respect their beliefs. Your mind is in distress and you are trying soothe it by trying to reach certainty. You are in search for certainty.
Impossible task in this world. Nothing is certain.
The answer to your question regarding the need to believe in god
is your own need to ask it: you are looking for certainty.
Your actions are the answers to your questions. people with beliefs are just one step ahead of you. They arrived at their destination.

Let no-one fool you ; we all need a God figure ; lives are barren without God, those who think that God is a myth , will find them-selves the losers, lives are lack-lustre and meaningless. Let no-one fool you that there is no God.They are seeking for you to have eternal death, with no after life.

I believe. Therefore God has revealed himself to me.

You want someone to prove God to you in order to believe.

It's not going to happen.

There's ample proof of God's existence if you read God's Word objectively.

Your inquiry, is, therefore, an exercise in choice. You are choosing to disbelieve.

It's your choice to make, and you've made it.

I've made my choice the other way, I've chosen to believe.

God doesn't send anyone to hell. God gave his only begotten son so that whosoever believes in Him doesn't have to go there if they choose to believe.

You've chosen not to believe. Therefore, you've chosen to die in your sins and spend eternity separated from God and those who believe in Him.

Again, that's your choice, and you've made it.

So I guess I can't say: "See you later!", 'cause you've chosen not to be with us when we enter into our reward.

So I won't see you later.

You know, of course, you're betting your life that God doesn't exist.

I pray you'll give your choice a little more thought.

God is beyond existence. That is to say, whatever is in existence, something or someone had to have put it into existence. If God was to exist, then it would be a contradiction in terms, in that whatever is created had to have a creator. God is that Creator. God couldn't create another god and still have this god not be a created being.
What is more plausible: For God to always have been, or that He created Himself?
