There is only one Labour MP who has been in the UK armed forces but I cannot remember his name; Labour MP Piara Khabra was in the Indian armed forces.
There are more Tories who have served but the only ones I can name offhand are Iain Duncan Smith, Julian Brazier, Michael Mates, David Davis, Peter Tapsell and Nicholas Soames.
LibDem John Burnett was in the marines but Ming Campbell was not in the military. Jeffrey Donaldson (DUP) was in the Ulster Defence Regiment. Debates on the armed services are much better informed in the House of Lords; most MPs are just professional politicians.
You could call the House of Commons Information Office at 020 7219 4272 - their job is to answer questions from the public.

My guess....AINT MANY!!. Paddy Ashdowne springs to mind(as a reservist/volounteer) But I'm hard pushed to think of another. What you might be interested you to know is that the Labour Defense Minister (early doors) is now the head of NATO. Now, as a former serving member of HM Forces I find this incredulous. As a Minister for the Forces he was pretty useless so why such a monumetal rise? Well, as we are all becoming TOO aware....help Tony...help yourself....will we ever be rid of these leeches? Bring on some good old debate, good characters, people who stand for SOMETHING..then the people of the UK may become empowered AGAIN. Till that day stand by to be leched from, over-ruled, insignificant, and bled dry.
I am considering forming THE UK STRAIGHT TALKING PARTY in opposition. We don't expect to win (even if 90% of the population agree with us) because we CANNOT (it's geared that way) WIN at least we can give em a bloody nose.
What do I know about governing a country? NOT MUCH!!! But I'll stand head to toe with anyone who wants to say what works in the UK.AND BE RULED FROM BRUSSSELS??I'D sooner be hung drawn and quartered. (Have to b careful now...I mean...a prominent scientist hung himself) NUFF SAID.

Paddy Pantsdown (Lib) was in the Royal Marines and SBS, Nicholas Soames (Tory) was in the army, David Davies (Tory) was in the SAS 21 squadron reserve, Tony Benn (Labour) was a fighter pilot in the RAF. Dennis Healy (Labour) served in world war two.
I'm pretty sure that Menzies (Ming) Campbell (lib) was in the Army.
There will be others, particularly the older members.
Most of the current Labour government were anti military and members of CND including Tony Blair and Gordon Brown who both campaigned against Trident in the 80's and have now just renewed it.
Many of them were also young communists whilst our armed forces were facing down communism in the cold war.
Strange how things turn out isnt it??

That's the whole problem with this Government not enough. If they had our troops would not be called the borrowers, have inferior equipment, and fly around in to few 25year old choppers.
Bring in conscription for MPs that would be good. If you can send a man to fight for you, should at least some idea about his lot!

not very many not even a handful that's why our troops are out at the sharp end they have no idea what its like to be under fire so perhaps we should vote only for guys that are mature and have had to rough it which rules Cameron out and a whole lot more
