I have a 20 year old Chihuahua who is still going strong.
It really just depends on how well they are taken care of. Mikey, my chihuahua, had to have some pretty major oral surgery a few years ago because he had a gum infection. Now he has 2 teeth left!
Looking back, I would say DEFINITELY brush your dogs teeth. I wish I had. Regular vet visits are also very important. Whenever I think anything might be wrong with him, I take him to the vet.

They can live 15+ years. It is important to get their shots and check ups from the vet in a timely manner and to brush their teeth! Dental health problems are the biggest causes of death in small dogs. Good luck.

It is quite normal for them to live into their teens, even 20's. The oldest one that I know of lived 27 yr.

It varies to how well you care, feed, and vet checks. My neighbor has a pure bred chih. and it is 13 years old.
