Personally I am always prepared to loose it if it is lended to a friend. If it is lended to my Mom, I know I will always get it back. As far as was it really ever yours? well it was yours for the time you had it and used it, after it was borrowed, well that could be a different story.

Nothing is every truly "yours" except your own thoughts, maybe -- and even many of them are borrowed! When you lend something to someone, you must ALWAYS be prepared to either lose it -- or enforce the return and suffer the consequences thereof, possibly losing the friendship of the borrower! Been there, done that. So it goes.

You shouldnt have to be prepared to lose it, but my dad always say you shouldnt expect it back which is confusing because I think people should just ask for it if they want it or need it.

Have you ever heard the expression "a lender nor a borrower be"? It's the chance you have to take when loaning anything to anyone.
