I want to start copying old Video's over to DVD and also shows off of DirectTV. I'm hoping to get a reliable unit with upconverting, campatibility to all or most formats for recording & playback. Not familiar with this terminology, it's purpose or importance. So your help is greatly appreciated.

These are the 2 I'm comparing:

1. Samsung DVD-VR330
2. JVC DR-MV7S

Thanks for your help.

I should have mentioned the Samsung unit does not look like the VCR records. Don't think I can record from DirectTv straight to the DVD.

Thanks - Linda

My first instinct was to suggest the Samsung product immediately. It's a great company that makes good equipment. I decided to check out that particular player first, and i like it. I think it will meet your needs very well.

you can hook up your Direct TV to it and the VCR is built in, so you should be able to record both sources onto DVDs without any problem. It also is compatible with normal formats for recording and playback, so any supplies you would have to buy should be the normal thing (such as DVD-R's.)

Hope this helps.
