Distance from earth to the moon= 238,857 miles
Grain of sugar has an average length of .5 mm
.5mm = 3.0686e^(-7) miles
so
238857 miles
________________ = OMFG my Calc cant do it..... wait !!
3.0686e^(-7) miles
it equals ... 85360915.83 grains
so it takes roughly 85.3 million grains of sugar to reach the moon from the surface of the Earth.
Of course the moon moves away from Earth about 3cm a year.
So every year you would have to add 3cm or 30mm worth of sugar grain a year, which comes out to adding about 60 grains of sugar every year to continue the sugar pillar, tower, or whatever to keep touching the surface fo the Earth and moon at the same time.

Ain't you got nuthin better to do then to stack sugar cubes? I personally feel that grains of salt or peeper works best for a trip to the moon.
