This depends on whether you are speaking in general or if you are asking what you can recycle at your apartment/home. Here is what my city website says:

Each household is required to recycle plastic, milk, soda and water jugs, glass bottles and jars, metal and aluminum cans, newspapers with inserts, catalogs, magazines and flattened cardboard and paperboard. Containers must be rinsed and caps or lids removed. Place newspaper in plastic or paper bags. Cardboard must be flattened and be no larger than 3’x 3’x 6".

Check out your city/town/county website to see what kind of regulations they have on recycling.

virtually anything
look for the recyclable symbol
make sure its clean
anything made of or from wood / plastic/ glass (but not shards)
